Zappa In Budapest

14 years ago, in June ’91, Frank Zappa visited the Czech Republic and Hungary on an invitation by Vaclav Havel and mayor Gábor Demszky. In remembrance of this event, Balint presents this page with memorabilia, pictures, audio- and video-artifacts.

Rufus The Baptist

Rufus Wainwright

Want to know my latest musical obsession? Rufus Wainwright. The son of acclaimed Canadian American “alternative folk” singer Loudon Wainwright III, Rufus, in his last two albums, has brilliantly incorporated classical influences, folk, rock, even opera, and, well, plain camp, into songs of sheer beauty. Combine his goose bump invoking voice with lush arrangements, wonderful melodies and poignant, at times deliciously provocative lyrics and what you get is: a classic.

More Munich

Since The Real Munich ’80 has only been up for a couple of days, I figured we’d keep the show available for a bit more time. That and, because both Gilles and I suffer from short term memory loss, yesterday we agreed upon featuring a boot which had already made the rounds here. (Insert * Rolls Eyes * emoticon)

Actually

Unsurprisingly, I am, in fact, probably — yet unwittingly — and although I’m not really a writer per sé — guilty of many of these agonizing writer’s mistakes, no really.

The Real Munich 80

Several knowledgeable readers (I’m lookin’ at you Balint!) have noticed some oddities with regard to the Munich 80 boot that was made available last Friday. Fear not, the correct version is now in place. Nothing but the best for KUR readers! :)

More Zappa Plays Zappa

Billboard interviews Dweezil. On the setlist:

Many a forgotten gem — some of which may never have been performed before — will be spotlighted. “We’re probably going to play a few things that might be from the ‘We’re Only in It for the Money’ period — I don’t want to give away all the surprises,” Dweezil says. “His music from the middle ’70s was really pivotal, and that’s going to play a really big role in what we’re doing — things from ‘Apostrophe,’ ‘Over-Nite Sensation,’ ‘Sheik Yerbouti,’ ‘Joe’s Garage.’ But we want people to feel like they’re getting a real well rounded experience.”

And apparently a live DVD of the tour is “being discussed”!

Munich 80

KUR: Salut Patron!

Agency Man

The CIA is looking for a graphic designer. Neat! No such fun as photoshopping non-existent nuclear missile bases for a living.
