FZ Gig List Goes Live

Back in early May I mentioned how I was trying to create a database-backed version of Charles Ulrich’s FZ Gig List (which is an incredible work of dedication and stamina in and of its self). The idea was to make searching through all that information a little easier. So here now, is my version. Real programmers would call my disorderly bit of code-fiddling “beta”, so I’ll refrain from using that term ;)
Try it out, and tell me what you think. Usual lay-out disclaimer: Hey, it looks good on my computer!

  1. that is real cool.

    May I make two suggestions?

It would be nice to be able to search by cities (It is often easier to remember the name of a city than the name of a venue) as well as some basic multicriteria search. (ex. search all the shows in France in 1982…)

Other thant this, thanks a bunch it is a fun tool

  2. Hey guys, glad you like it! :-)
suzycreemcheeze: I’ve implemented the search by city now; and yes a multi-criteria search (country by year) is in the works…
whatchamacallit: the bulk of the work for this should be attributed to Charles Ulrich – he’s really done an incredible job keeping this list up to date. All I had to do was drop his txt-file in a database and write up the script.
By the way, I’ve added intra-page links for each show, so that you may link directly to any given show. Any suggestions, keep ’em coming!

  3. Barry–this might be asking too much, but is there a way to cross-reference the dates on your list with the Gilboot cover site? I love the covers he’s got over there, but he doesn’t list show dates. What’s a poor boy to do?

  4. Bit far-fetched that, Mario! Would be nice though if I could list the name of the bootleg (when there is one) for a given date. Anybody willing and able to go through Zappa Patio and make a textfile with date/bootleg-title? Of course not. What was I thinking ;-)
