Surround Sound Dweez

The Dweez is at it again:

One of the upcoming projects Dweezil plans to attempt is a surround remix of one of Frank’s classic releases:
“I can’t wait to go from the ground up on a classic record,” he says. “The problem we will encounter is the way that Frank worked. He would often take stuff from alternated takes and build something out of it, and insert it into something else. That stuff is usually not documented, so even if you have the master tape and the stereo mixes, if you go to the source tape you won’t find everything there. Our challenge will be to either find those little snippets or re-create them. If it can’t be done, then we can’t do a complete version of those classic records.

Because, you know, who wants that silly Roxy DVD released anyway, right? What the world needs now is rehashed classic albums in [expletive] surround sound!

(Pardon, is that my spit on your face?)

Cheap Thrills?

The Cheapening of Music:

When my friend said that he believed music has been cheapened, he was referring to the fact that music is now everywhere. It’s in your cellphone, on the web, on your microwave, TV, toys, etc. It’s even a marketing tool. It’s become easier to get, but will that affect the music itself?

With the advent of mp3, iPods, iTunes, BitTorrent, multi-gigabyte storage etc, will the concept of the ‘record album’ have become a thing of the past, say 5 years from now? Given FZ’s notion of Conceptual Continuity, I wonder how he would’ve (re)acted to these changes in the music industry.

TBN’s April Update

And now the moment many have been waiting for: The Big Note has updated! Too much new stuff to mention here, but it does feature the “Grand Opening” of EyebrowTweezer Productions.
Or wait… is that April Fools?

Ricky & Bobby

April Fools or not, trust me when I say we have a nice show lined up: Palace Theater, Los Angeles, 21 july 1984. You will note that, by this time, the band had replaced Ricky Martin with Bobby Martin. As Gilles told me: this one is not complete, but the sound is far from bad…

Hey, Flickr has a Zappa tag! Hadn’t seen these pictures before, nice set. (And this is one cool T-shirt! I had no idea Nappy Brock is auditioning for Return Of The Zombies by the way.)

Picking Up Momentum

Wiki Jawaka may be less than a month old but it’s really starting to pick up momentum. A ton of information is being added constantly by its tiny userbase, and using the Random Page feature has become one of my daily diversions. Of course, we’re still looking for editors

Crumb In France

Does he miss anything about America? “For one thing, I guess I miss all those large-butted American women. But also my role as a commentator on that culture. I mean, I can’t comment on French culture. I can’t tell what the hell’s going on here.” Has that given him an identity crisis? “A little bit, yeah, a little bit.”

Crumb: “When I was four, I knew I was weird.”

Bullet

Woody Allen – Standup Comedian:

Years ago, my mother gave me a bullet…a bullet, and I put it in my breast pocket. Two years after that, I was walking down the street, when a berserk evangelist heaved a Gideon bible out a hotel room window, hitting me in the chest. Bible would have gone through my heart if it wasn’t for the bullet.

See if you can find some routines there that were later used in his movies.

Fixed — Or So It Seems

Looks like I solved the commenting/downloading/forum-posting problems around here. Something to do with a htaccess file which will give you a glazed look in the eye if I say anymore about it…
