Celine’s Spells

Does the life you been leadin’ gotta go? Well let Celine straighten you out! “I have been doing love spell’s since the age of 16 years old. All my spell’s are done only trough white magic power full prayer and meditation” Wonderful spelling allright.

Five Mistakes

Five Mistakes Band & Label Sites Make.
1: Too much Flash — “Okay, I get it. You’re creative. Awesome. But you’re totally wasting my morning as I helplessly wait for your designer’s dancing sausages to finish loading.”
I know someone who should read this…

More Fun With G-Groups

Still digging around GoogleGroups, here’s the earliest affz posts made on Sep 16 ’91. The first words ever posted there were, apparently: “another group without a summery!”. Also of interest: Dec 1993, the month in which FZ died.

Google Groups

Lookin’ good: Google has started a group service similar to YahooGroups which also allows you to read/subscribe to usenet groups such as affz. I wonder how much file-storage Google provides, seeing as how certain Y-groups are starting to lack storage space. (Update: you get seemingly infinite storage in the form of email-attachments apparently.)

Z on CNN

CNN (!) has an article on Miles’ FZ biography: “I think it was the ordinariness, the emptiness of much of his experience, particularly growing up in the desert, where there was little in the way of architectural, visual stimulation or anything else,” he says. “That enabled his creative ability to come to the fore, to make up for much of what was missing in his life.”

Zappa Catalog, Phase II

A message from zappa.com: “We regret to inform you that Warner Bros (under the guise of “WEA Labels & Lifestyles Sales” – ugh!) and Ryko, our favorite home teams, will no longer support Barfko-Swill in our efforts to provide you with the original FZ Catalog.”

Living In A Jar

“The coolest thing about the Thing is that everyone responds to seeing it by asking questions. Where did I find it? Is it an internal organ? Is it some sort of fetus? Would it go well with pasta?” (via eskimokaka)

Misery Whispers

Josh, also known as Shadow Mercy, Jessica, who calls herself Misery Whispers and Anton who is known as Lord Mercy, are all Goths and 12-years-old. “I listen to Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, Green Day, Good Charlotte and other sorts of punk metal or gothic rock. I like to do magic spells and to look at runes books.” Kids today! (Don’t miss the comments at the bottom…)

One Man Band

Check out McRorie Tait’s one-man-band, it is truly amazing. One can’t but wonder what would happen if this guy were to take on a Zappa tune! :) (Thanks Tom!)

Poll Two

Well that was telling, wasn’t it. Seems the majority of Z-fans who read KUR, are in the 30 to 40 range, closely followed by the 40+ contingent. Beyond/below that, online interest fades. But hey! We have a new poll for you. Check the polling box to the right…

Bye Bye Spam

Service Anouncement: as of now, my barry@killuglyradio.com email-address will no longer work. I’ve had to delete it because of the hideous amount of spam it was getting. For any and all inanities you wish to communicate, please use my gmail address which is listed at the bottom of this page. Thanks!

Zappa In Darmstadt

Props to Evaristo for having found “the hidden link between Zappa and the Tropicalia Movement”. The article in question has Rogerio Duprat reminiscing his encounter with FZ in Darmstadt — way back in 1962! Any Portuguese readers that can translate for the rest of us?
