Mike Keneally is interviewed in Modern Guitars Magazine, where he speaks on a variety of topics — his experiences playing and performing with the Zappas (Frank, Dweezil & Ahmet), Steve Vai, Henry Kaiser and The Mistakes, James LaBrie and Mullmuzzler, his thoughts on the Zappa Plays Zappa tour, as well as the re-release of his early albums Hat and Boil That Dust Speck.

Interesting interview. Thanks.
There has been a debate going on since the mid 1990s or so concerning who is furthering Zappa’s legacy into the 21st century — Mike Keneally or Steve Vai? Personally, having listened to them both extensively, I say neither has right to that crown, or should want it for that matter. They are all unique artists with unique visions. That they played with FZ at one time does not make them heirs to his musical legacy, only their own.
Anyone who keeps Frank’s legacy alive is worth celebrating.
As long as someone, somewhere still listens to his music, Frank’s legacy is secure.
