kill ugly radio!

I was thinking about our domain name today, and then it dawned on me: instead of posting MP3’s to songs we like, we should be posting links to the worst songs we’ve heard during the course of our existence! Make it “The Weekly Sucker” or something. What do you think?

How about Fresh Garbage? There was a song by that name back in the 60’s/70’s, but for the life of me I can’t remember who did it. It was a catchy little number. It wouldn’t end up on your list.

I think it’s a good idea! I used to feel like vomit in the ’80s, when listening in the radio to Scorpions’s “Wind of Change”… that would be my first option, not knowing Deb’s “Fresh Garbage” (i like the title tho’ :-). Most of the horrible tunes are so catchy, i hate that, you listen to it once and then you have it on your mind all they looong..!!

  3. DebK says:

I found it! After extensive research…Fresh Garbage was a song recorded by an early jazz/rock type band called Spirit around 1968-1973. To clarify, I think it would make a nifty title, pairing it with Fresh Meat. (info courtesy of CDNOW) My all time pick for garbage song is My Sharona. The boss I worked for at that time played top-fory radio constantly. so every half hour da da dada da da da dada da da da dada da MY SHARONA! I will never forget it, at least the opening. My brain shut down after that.

  4. Dr Sharleena says:

aaaah…!! yes, we have had here the My Sharona era, i can tell!! and also the top-fory radio, which is still living around. I completely identify in suffering, Deb… :-)

  5. DebK says:

Thank you! I appreciate your sympathy for my many dead brain cells. The Scorpions, eh? I don’t think I cared for them too much either.

I like the name “Fresh Garbage”! Also, I would have to say that most of what I deem to be “Fresh Garbage” would come out of the 80ies… Howard Jones, Depeche Mode, Whitney Houston; the options are endless… The only problem I see is where to get the mp3’s though. I’ll see if I can find stuff on Limewire. Meantime: keep on posting your personal “Fresh Garbage”, so I have sort of a database to pull from!

  7. DebK says:

Will do, Mr Barry, sir! My next choice would be just about anything by John Cougar Mellencamp. If I had to choose only one it would be “R.O.C.K. in the USA”. Here’s a tried and true formula. Take a mediocre song and add some so-so lyrics about how great rock and roll is and blammo! you have a hit record! My second pick would be the Authority Song(for it’s awkward and stupid lyrics). To be fair, he writes a pleasant sometimes energetic song, but in Indiana he is part of the triumvarate of Mellencamp/Tom Petty/Pink Floyd. At least Pink Floyd did some interesting and experimental stuff, but they never play any early pieces here. Top-fory radio, I just caught that! Very good, Sharl. It was my keyboard, honest!

  8. Bob Again says:

…and see those things you did not quite consume, your Fresh Garbage! Kraaa-Zeee On Ewe!!

  9. DebK says:

Bob! You remember Spirit! Cool! I don’t even have to ask what your garbage song would be! Ummm, maybe something by Heart?

  10. bertanya says:

And of course, Spirit also recorded an album called potatoland. It’s a fairly easy listening album, some nice tunes and some amusing potato related tracks.

  11. SuzyC says:

I mention this casually. My favorite album is LÄTHER!

  12. Eric Johnson says:

I don’t think it’s a good idea. Who wants to waste time/hard drive space on crap ass songs? We’d be much better off just listening to Zappa!

  13. SOFA says:

    The answer is quite simple…
Post the link a site that was featured in Hot Poop not that long ago. It’s the one with William Shatner doing Mr. Tamborine man – Burt Reynolds singing some drivel, etc. The site was truly hilarious. Ask if you can post a link to them, and call it fresh garbage.
I assume my usual consultant’s fee is in the mail, Barry?

  14. SOFA says:

Plus, it would avoid any possible squabbles over what constitutes bad (as these are truly, without question, bad)
I, for one, do not share DebK’s loathing of “Johnny Cooper”. I understand her feelings tho’. It’s sorta the same here in Michigan with Nugent and Seger… GFR in the 70’s…
    I liked all that shit.
Now, Leonard Nimoy singing MacArthur Park – That’s garbage worth hearing, at least once.
Tell you what Berry, if you want to kick this off – with or without the link to the bad song site, I’ll gladly send “Orange Colored Sky” by Burt Ward – a song FZ produced. And the worst pice of shit on the planet. You need to hear it to understand just how bad it is…

  15. DebK says:

Yes, I have heard “Orange Color Sky” and it truly is bad. Also the other side, “Boy Wonder, I Love You” is even worse. No doubt. A site with bad clips by people who should not sing them is fadetoblack.com, has some hilarious celebrity outakes as well. Sorry about trashing JCM, Sofa. Anything begins to sound bad if you hear it often enough. Except FZ at his best (no Boy Wonder!). I still think it’s a good idea at least discussing these matters.

  16. bertanya says:

How about Fresh Meat, and Fresh Garbage forums. This would work to build a list of appreciated music, and a list of music that ask’s why you would want to listen to it. As for the mp3’s, the FM invites you to find out for yourself about the music, and the FG is already asking why you want to listen to it.

  17. DebK says:

I like Bertanya’s suggestion! What do you think Barry?

  18. Dr Sharleena says:

Good point! I’d really hate to see Barry losing time on finding crap to link (no offense Scorpions’s fans around. I can’t speak for the rest of their stuff). Discussing appreciated/not appreciated music in a forum is more interesting…
PS: Deb, top-fory is the way they tell that here in the radio. Your keyboard is right! :-)

  19. DebK says:

Ok Dr. S, top fory it is.

BTW I have The Best Band You Never Heard and it is wonderful. And I nearly bust a gut when I heard a few notes of My Sharona in the middle of Bolero. Very funny! Yes, like you, I will never be able to listen to any other version again.

  20. Dr Sharleena says:

Best Band is one of the BESTS ever!! I’m glad you could get it. Yeah, i reminded the My Sharona bit when you made your comment. And the Bolero…I find it very dense unless it is not this version. What about the reaggish version of Stairway to Heaven? And Purple Haze? Insuperable!

  21. Barry says:

    bertanya’s suggestion of a forum-format is inspiring… I’m seriously considering it… thanks all!

  22. Sister Margaretta says:

    horrah for Zappa
