Careful when playing that favorite Zappa-tune over and over again in your loved one’s presence — especially if (s)he happens to be Australian.

Longplayer is a 1000 year long piece of music which started to play on the 1st January 2000 and will continue to play, without repetition, until the 31st December 2999, when it will come back to the point at which it began - and begin again. Longplayer takes an existing recorded piece of music and uses this as source material, simultaneously playing 6 sections taken from it, each at a slightly different position and each at a different pitch. Here’s a live stream.

Last Thursday, President Bush signed into law a prohibition on posting annoying Web messages or sending annoying e-mail messages without disclosing your true identity.
“The use of the word ‘annoy’ is particularly problematic,” says Marv Johnson, legislative counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union. “What’s annoying to one person may not be annoying to someone else.”
I’m sure internet trolls around the world are shaking with fear.

Blegh. I’m down with a severe cold that I caught within two hours upon boarding the plane back to Belgium. Did I mention the guy in the airplane who crushed my glasses with 14 hours left to travel?
I’ve had my first uneventful working day, I’m having to re-adjust to icy temperatures and to tell you the truth, I’ll admit to having something of a Buenos Aires/Brazil Blues. This morning I was about to make an attempt at selling a co-worker a 10 pack Marlboro sleeve purchased in São Paulo’s tax free shop, when he told me his NewYear’s resolution had been to quit smoking. Ha! He may have a point though. Here’s what Brazilian authorities put on the back of each and every cigarette pack. Gentlemen? This one should really make you think.

Ammmmazing… Web at it’s peak - from the Czech Republic. I tried a flash-game (Rocketman VC) and an animation (Plantage). Beautiful. And funny. It will take your time… ![]()

I’d just like to thank our friend Balint (of zappa.hu fame) for keeping this page alive and kicking while Sharl and I were out of The Office. It is no understatement to say he has done an excellent job. Many thanks my friend, and if you ever leave for a month long trip, I shall gladly keep an eye on your fine Zappa page — as long as I don’t have to write a word of Hungarian… ![]()

Here’s some irony for you: I go through incredible efforts to offer weekly Friday Boots whilst struggling with hideous internet-connections on the other side of the globe, then finally return home and wake up to a Friday having forgotten it’s time for another Boot. Blame the jetlag. This week’s boot: The Wighalle, Vienna, ‘74 (Early show).

I’m back my friends. Oh the delight of putting on multiple layers of sweaters, jackets and socks to fend off the winter cold, when you compare it to this atrocious state of being:

Anyway.
So what’s this I hear about new Zappa releases? Care to fill me in? Did my crossing another border help any?

Browsing the page of Ensemble Ambrosius I’ve found two articles about arranging Zappa for Ensemble Ambrosius.
(By the way: their latest news is from 2002. Are they slill active and well? I hope so.)

The album of the month on Chrome Dinette for January is Just Another Band From L.A. Well, might not be bad, but sometimes I just don’t get the feeling - that’s why I was so surprised to find myself enjoying Playground Psychotics so much… Sounds great!
(Do you ever listen to music in realAudio?)

Well, who knows what release comes next: I got the information that Barry (and Dr. Sharl) is (are) about to cross some borders again… I (we) hope they’ll have a good flight, and till than here’s a few words on Joe’s XMASage.
