Absolutely OT and completely biased post

Hat off to Yugoslavia, who won the 2002 Basketball World Cup that happened (believe me!) in Indianapolis from Aug 22 to Sept 8. The second place went to Argentina, an obscure, exotic country that limits with the Antarctica.
For some reason this competition has been ignored by the press in general -wait, wait, someone in San Francisco noticed it…

  1. “The thrilling and controversial championship game ended with Argentina’s players angrily pointing their fingers and yelling at a Greek referee who failed to call a foul on the final play of regulation.”

Quoting Barry from some months ago: I can’t believe that shmuck of a referee; why on earth didn’t he blow the whistle there?? hrmph…grrr

  2. ….aaaw, thanks Deb…i’m feeling better now :-)
What amazes me is that the stadiums were almost empty..! I mean, it was the Basket World Cup, it was in the USA, isn’t it weird? there was almost anyone in the stadiums…

  3. By the way, don’t trust the CIA link i provided. We have had 6 more presidents since then (in less than one year), and the unemployment rate has raised twice what it says.
Gotta update your info, you cia guys..! :-)

  4. Congrats to the Argentinian team for having beaten the US though! I love it when you post Absolutely OT and completely biased entries ;-)

  5. …yeah, that was something we couldn’t believe when it happened last week…thanx Barry!

  6. I’ll rectify what i’ve said about the Basket World Cup being ignored: this argentine blogger has found at least ten sites speaking about this via google (see in lower right).
My fault!! I swear by my left toe they wasn’t there when i searched! Father, gag me with a spoon..! :-)

Not weird, really; the US team didn’t have any ‘names”, just CBA players – hence, the nation wasn’t too interested. The biggest name US player out there was Vladi Divak – and he played for the Yugoslavian team…
It’s like a high school junior varsity game; no one goes to those except the parents.
I think it’s cool that Yugo won, and Argentina placed well. It might get some of those over-paid, arrogant, “professionals” off their collective ass in support of their country.

  8. Thanks for the explanation, Sofa…
Yeah, i imagined something like that when seeing those stadiums almost empty…
