Project/Object & Zappanale Fever

Andre Cholmondeley of Project/Object dropped a note announcing the band’s mini August tour in Europe. The gigs are:

  • SAT 08: Prague, Czech Republic – Lucerna music bar
  • SUN 09: Eindhoven, Netherlands – Effenaar
  • TUE 11: Laredo, Spain – Polideportivo Municipal Emilio Amavisca
  • THU 13: Berlin, Germany – Dot club
  • FRI 14: Bad Doberan, Germany – Zappanale 20

Go see them if you can!

In other authentically unofficial news, Thomas of Zappanale just announced a surprise addition to this year’s line-up: Discus, an Indonesian band (would you believe!). He writes:

For all of yours who get out of bed early on sunday on August 16th, go and listen to DISCUS from Indonesia. We, or better say them, tried it for years to come over, now it’s gonna be true. Get out of bed and listen to kind of a metal, progrock, Indonesian ethno, zappaesk sound or whatever you want to call it.

And so it’ll be an early rise & shine for Sharl, Lucas and me on that day — because this year we are officially attending Zappanale! 🙂

Adrian Belew’s “E”

A brand new album for the Power Trio – the tracks are: a. b. c. d. e. – hehe. See the post on Adrian Belew’s blog, and you can buy it here (via: The Idiot Bastard).

“The band also recently issued a Live Overseas album on iTunes (which includes Neurotica and Frame By Frame, neither of which appeared on the excellent Side Four Live)”

Spotify

Ever since Last.fm decided to join the dark side, I’ve been on the lookout for another music-streaming service. Enter Spotify:

Spotify

Register (free), download/install some software, and you’re good to go. Search for artists, by genre or decade and you’ll get instant results paired with related music. Click a track and it will start playing — instantly.

Not accessible outside Sweden, Norway, Finland, the UK, France and Spain for now, but some smart people figured out a way around that. No Frank Zappa to be found, though I did stumble upon an entire Ensemble Modern (Plays Frank Zappa) album, as well as the complete Classic Interviews.

Awesomeness all around! So much so that, having only played around with it for half an hour, I’m starting to wonder where the catch is…

Audience Misbehavin’

Back before video rentals became big business with the opening of the first Blockbuster Video store in Dallas in 1985, people went out to theaters for much of their entertainment.
