The RKO radio chain refuses to play Rod Stewart’s hit “Tonight’s The Night” until the lyric “spread your wings and let me come inside” is edited from the song.(!!!)
Found under the ’60’s:
1. MGM Records alters the Frank Zappa song “Money” because it contains a sexual reference.
2. WLS radio commissions a local group to re-record the Them hit “Gloria” because they object to the lyrics. Station management feels that the lyric “she comes in my room” is too suggestive for broadcast. Instead, they contact a local band, the Shadows of Knight, to re-record the tune. The Shadows of Knight version becomes a national top ten hit; the original stalls at number 71 on the charts.

1. A song by FZ called Money? Perhaps they are meaning the album WOIIFTM? When I click on the link, it is unavailable.
2. Radio Station WLS commissioning the SOK to do Gloria, because the Them version is too dirty! The first time I ever heard this bit of news. The SOK had a fine reputation as sexually salacious themselves. Why would WLS choose them to do a “Clean American Version”? Anyway, what is so unfair about this? Them’s version was not banned, more people bought the SOK version so it got higher in the charts. Lots of people did their own version of Gloria.

I am doing a school protest agenst bannned music. I want to know why things are banned from music and books when they are well permitted on movies.
