Whatever Happened to Punky Meadows?

Well, why don’t you read for yourself:

Today, he wears perfectly creased form-fitting jeans and an unbuttoned-to-below-the-sternum silk shirt; the look is no less immaculate than the one the now-52-year-old sported before he came back to the D.C. area almost 15 years ago. Meadows likes to keep his clothes immaculate. He likes to keep his hair immaculate, too: His chestnut mane is cut into a one-of-a-kind half-gladiator-helmet, half-California-swinger style with strategical blond highlights.

  1. Angel (and Punky Meadows) were completely unknown here in the UK until FZ wrote ‘Punky’s Whips’. Even then, nobody much bothered to check them out. Having just Googled some images of Mr Punky and his pals, I think we made the right choice in continuing to ignore them!

  2. My brother had some of their albums, and I went through a phase of digging their first album. This profile of Punky is great! “People take their clothes off here,”
I live about four hours away from TanFastic, but the next time I visit my brothers there, I will try and take some pictures.

“I’ve got the ankle chains on”? How bonerific.

  3. Query: did Punky do an Angeloid cameo w/ FZ?! My lobes are still recuperating from hearing him w/ Sting, let alone seeing him on Miami Vice (or Mike Douglas) … eep.

  4. Yeah – the interview is very vague about that, isn’t it? Punky describes his guest spot up until he sees the giant picture of himself before he is supposed to go onstage, then doesn’t really say anything to indicate whether he played or not or how it went. He also says FZ invited him to his home tp play. the thought of “FZ — the Lost Punky Meadows Sessions” as a future release … I can feel the shockwaves of pure power emanating back into our present time from it’s futre release date.

  5. Kinda curious…after all these years, the fixation on Punky. I was just geezing and punched this up. Are you in the UK? I worked with the Cherry People in the early seventies as a roadie and ultimately “bookie” (who’d presume themselves manager of Cherry People. The common take I get and have always gotten on peoples’ perception of their recordings was how Jan Zukowski described them as “rock-n-roll Christmas carols”. Truth was, live, Cherry People were the most kick assinest bands I’ve ever seen. When I was told to drive eight sixteen penny nails into the band riser in front of Rocky Isaac’s double base drums I started to get the heeby geegies about where this was going to go when I first hooked up with them. The rest was pure magic and even after we parted ways, I ended up with Capitol Records (EMI), and Punky merely stretched out on a plateau he’ always been on. Since I haven’t beeen in touch with anybody for over twenty years, I’m curious…maybe you can fill me in and I could tell you some pretty good stories…
