The only “good” thing about this re-repackaging is that Cal is involved. The fact he is, though, makes me feel badly that he can’t find a somewhat more noble and fulfilling enterprise to get involved with than this. Making money re-repackaging repackaged Zappa discs can’t be very rewarding.

You have a point there. Sidenote: the webpage itself was very nicely designed. I wonder if Schenkel had anything to do with that as well.

The sets would be nice for those new to FZ and the Mothers, but somehow they lose the flavor of the original releases when you do that! It does help to keep FZ’s name alive, though.

I agree with both of you on all points. On the issue of flavoring, my read on the promotional stuff is the packages are the same as the 1995 Ryko packages, once you get past the new slipcase – all original artwork is included, etc. If they aren’t, shame on them! And yes, these packages appear to be a good deal for someone who, for some unknown reason, has never owned these discs or wants to upgrade from inferior first run Ryko releases (prior to 1995).
