Filthy Fifteen

Bless MetaFilter:

In 1985, Tipper Gore’s PMRC released a list they called the “Filthy Fifteen,” detailing what they believed to be the fifteen most objectionable songs of the time, and the reason they felt each song should be censored…

Just one video that fills me with ’80s nostalgia: The Mary Jane Girls (a Prince vehicle if memory serves) – In My House:

“You’re frothing! I love it when you froth.” — FZ

Aah — had them mixed up with Apollonia 6 whose Sex Shooter I found highly interesting from an artistic point of view, at the time.

  2. Another comment ” from outer space”.

Barry, a recent father of a newborn child behaves like an old man. Nostalgia & further documenting about trivia from 20 years ago.

Not the way to go, Barry.

    Two essential things :
    – most of all : be forward looking & future oriented.
    – dig deeper into the past.

i can guarantee you not many people are blogging about the mary jane girls today. barry scores high for originality and sincerity.

also, it’s a zappa blog. the guy has been dead for a while now. so the very core of this blog is nostalgia. maybe you are in the wrong place.

So have I. I was just listening to Cameo’s 1980 album ‘Cameosis’ the other day and realised I’d forgotten how good it was.

Everybody should get the Deluxe version of Street Songs as it has a smokin’ live concert from 1981 on a bonus disk.

  11. i only found out about the existence of the Mynah Birds the other day. when someone said Neil Young and Rick James used to be in a band together in Canada in the ’60s i had to check to make sure i wasn’t being taken for a ride! weird, i’m gonna have to find some of that.
