Make a Jazz Noise Here
SOME copies of the old Zappa Records CD is missing two tracks that all other CDs have: Stravinsky's
"Royal March from L'Histoire du Soldat" and "Theme from the Bartok Piano
Concerto #3". The 1995 Ryko CD has these two tracks, and is not otherwise different
from earlier CDs.
We Need: Does the 1995 disc sound different as compared with
earlier discs?

Track Titles
This album spells "T'Mershi Duween" with three Es -
"T'Mershi Duweeen". On early copies, there was a typo in the
"booklet" reading "Toot Allures". :)

For some reason, some copies of the European version on Zappa Records does not have
Stravinsky's "Royal March from L'Histoire du Soldat" and "Theme from the
Bartok Piano Concerto #3" on it. But they do appear on the 1995 CD,
in Europe too. From Maurice Vergeer:
I heard or read somewhere that relatives of the composers did not approve of Zappa's
interpretations of the works.

Wrong timings on some songs, for example "Strictly Genteel" is really 06:37,
not 05:37. (Ed: Recent discussion on alt.fan.frank-zappa has shown that the
timing information is generally a mess on this album. See

Remember those long boxes CDs used to come in? No point, really, I was just thinking of
those things, they were the biggest waste of cardboard. I used to have a whole bunch of
'em that I saved, but I guess I threw them out at some point. Had a whole buncha red
Barking Pumpkin longboxes. God, I remember drooling over The Best
Band You Never Heard in Your Life and Make a Jazz Noise Here when
they first came out, NEW ZAPPA!
Double Cassette
James Kerr reports a screwed-up version of the cassette which had a side 4
that played side 4...as well as side 3, backwards, on top.
From JWB:
The cover lists the side break on cassette one as being between "Eat That
Question" and "Black Napkins", but the side break is really between
"Oh No" and "Theme from Lumpy Gravy". The print on the cassette itself
is correct.

... one thing that bugs me greatly about the Ryko reissue is that the switch from
"When Yuppies Go to Hell" to "Fire & Chains" seems to have been
changed. If the track times are correct, "Fire & Chains" should have been
just Zappa's solo, but the Ryko CD switches tracks the first time Bobby sings "fire
and chains." I suppose it's a matter of taste, but this annoys me a lot from an
aesthetic perspective. Why would people want to jump into the track in the middle of the
vocal improv section?
Questions
- It seems that there had been two CDs in Japan prior to 1995 - VACK and MSI. How come?
