Bogus Pomp Low Budget Semi-Acoustic Orchestra

Listen to (parts of) last August’s concert by the Bogus Pomp Low Budget Semi-Acoustic Orchestra at St Katharinen’s Church in Hamburg here (~100 mb, from the NDR radio – via the Idiot Bastard).

By the way: Bogus Pomp Is Good. Their Little House:

Hats off to:

Jerry Outlaw: Guitar, vocals, bandleader (I think);
Alex Pasut: Bass
Rick Olson: Keyboards, vocals, guitar
Ross Jobson: Keyboards, vocals
David Coash: Vibes, marimba, percussion, vocals
Jason Caren: Drums
David Pate: Sax
Byron Hogan: Cello

The wonderful orchestration is by Tom Trapp, as far as I know. Oops, and someone just made an edited version of the abovementioned radio broadcast – here. With Napoleon Murphy Brock in some tunes. Hey.

(See the original setlist here. Did I mention that this is wonderful music and orchestration?)

  1. Jerry and the boys really shine in this performance. The new lyrics for Idiot Bastard Son seem kind of forced, although the intention is fine. And I’ve never really like Cleetus, but everything else here is sublime. Trapp’s orchestration of the Burnt Weenie suite is incredible. Everyone should check out these guys; they care, and it shows.

  2. How nice this music is. Some REAL CD or DVD would really nice of this – and some other work of theirs. Great guys, finely balanced arrangement, love it.
BTW, I’d really would like to hear Big Swifty, Dog Meat, Sinister, Clownz on Velvet…
(also heard thet Ed Palermo is about to make a new CD.)

    You know it!

  4. Horrible, uninspired, one of my fave FZ compositions mutilated to sound hollow, tinkling, repetitive and predictable – sue the living shit out of’em Gail, will you !?

Michel i was beginning to think that only intelligent like-minded folk promoting Frank’s music posted here, as he would have most certainly approved of. You, however, have proved me wrong.
Hmmm let me guess…more stupid than hydrogen molecules exist in your severely limited pea brained atmosphere? If you’re not sure check with Gail ;P or the Brain Police.

I have to agree, although perhaps with proper recording of the performance, it would come off rounder, more full and less tinny. For a definitive cover version of “Little House” that stands on its own, see Ed Palermo.

Individuals show whether or not they have pea brains, not so much by the content of their posts, but by their tone.

  7. These arrangements were not done by Tom Trapp. Tom Trapp did arrangements for 2 other concerts that played under the name ‘The Bogus Pomp Low-Budget Orchestra’. It was Bogus Pomp with 18 of the braver players in the Florida Orchestra. I’ve been trying to get a decent recording of it for a few years, but Rick Olson (of BP) just hasn’t had the time to do it properly. I have 3 other shows on my site right now, for anyone who wants to listen. Free to download.
