all time best "rock and roll" songs of FZ
« on: October 10, 2007, 08:33:57 AM »

I have some friends that say "zappas not rock and roll". now that is mostly true as we all know there was much more to frank, but he did produce some of the most smoking rock and roll out there. I want to put together a playlist to prove it to my buddies. So I need help in naming the all time best pure rock and roll songs that FZ or the MOI did. A starting point:

trouble every day
willie the pimp
black napkins
directly from my heart to you.

Define "rock 'n roll"! Wink

Oh well, I'll play...

* San 'Berdino
* Fifty/Fifty
* Zomby Woof
* Ms Pinky
* Apostrophe'
* Muffin Man
* Stevie's Spanking
* Valley Girl

... off the top of my head.

Trying to not repeat songs I've seen in this post already....all of which I agree with.

Without a doubt the following are 10 songs to play to <those who want to hear what they expect to hear when someone says "Rock and Roll">

*Sexual Harassment in the Workplace (Guitar)
*Mammy Nuns Theme (YCDTOSA version, not Thing-Fish version)
*Magic Fingers (200 Motels short version)
*Mystery Roach (200 Motels)
*Jones Crusher (SY or BS version)
*City of Tiny Lites (SY)
*Bamboozled By Love (YCDTOSA version incl. "Owner of a Lonely Heart")
*Advanced Romance (BF)
*Wino Man (ZA or LE version)
*...and of course DOREEN!

What do they mean by "Rock and Roll"?

I find it reassuring that I have never heard half the songs listed here - and I have no desire to do so  Smiley

Every one of the above would make a perfect mix. I think I may make an "FZ R'n'R" mix when all the voting is in.

Frank Zappa not being a R&R musician in the literary acception of the label R&R, I'd say that one of his best R&R performances is his cover of The Allman Brothers' Whipping Post.
