Credit Card phishing?
« on: May 12, 2007, 09:30:22 AM »

Hi!

I'm trying to order Buffalo at Barfko Swill, but my order gets canceled because I'm from the Netherlands. I got an e-mail that tells me to copy my credit card and fax it to some number. However, hotmail tells me it's a possible phishing mail, so I'm not sure what to do.
Any of you guys (or gals) tried it & got the cd's or got the cd's without these extensive questions?

Sounds very strange.  They deliver to Europe without any problems so I do not see why the Netherlands should be a singled out as a problem for them.  Is it a regular Visa/MasterCard type card or something obscure?

Hi,

I have a very regular Master Card.

the complete mail was:

Quote
Hello,

"If you are placing an order from Austria, Brunei, Bulgaria, Ghana, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Morocco, Netherlands, Nigeria, Philippines, Singapore, Tunisia, or Venezuela, you will need to fax us a letter of authorization including your full name as it appears on the credit card, the credit card number, expiration date, billing address, authorization to charge your card and a photocopy of the front and back of the credit card. Please send your fax attn: the Call Center. If we do not receive your fax, your order will be deleted automatically. Please use the following fax number: 001-434-951-1345.

We apologize for this inconvenience, but the number of credit card security issues on orders from those countries listed above require that we try to protect our customers in everyway possible and this action is in your interest.

If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us.

Sincerely,

Bill
