What is the electronic effect that he uses in Ship Ahoy? the Black Napkins solo also has it in one section.

I think he called it Grab And Sample. But I could be wrong.

It is an Oberheim Voltage Control Filter (VCF) which was originally a keyboard effect.   The effect is known as sample-and-hold.

The most faithful reproduction of this effect is the Robotalk.  It's somewhat pricey at $250 and requires two 9v batteries or optional power supply
