Hello Barry and Uncle Beaters The recent Friday Boots of 1972 and 1973 concerts – dynamite shows, Barry – have inspired my offering to this vine.
BRUSSELLS Jan 28 1977 This is the only Zappa show I ever saw. My recording was made on Sony TC-50 from my seat at the left of the stage. The concert ran about 5 minutes or so longer than my 90 minute tape. Missing are the beginning of “My Guitar” due to tape flip and “Willie the Pimp” plus anything that came after that in the encore. This recording has never been traded but I would be interested to hear one of the other versions out there. Recorded to disc from my primitive tape gear some time ago the WAV files did not make very good MP3s so instead is offered as 2 Discs
1. CD-R of the concert up to “Black Napkins” followed by “Dinah-Moe Humm” from the encore 2. WAV file of “Black Napkins” + 3 Wazoo concerts- 1972 KANSAS CITY EARLY AND LATE SHOWS 1973 “little wazoo” PASSAIC, NEW JERSEY
So Barry, thanks for all the dynamite shows- if you would send me your snail mail address I would love to return the concert to Belgium
A few questions- 1. Is there an Aussie hub for the vines yet ? 2. Top of my wish list is the Contempo concert May 15, 1970-any chance to revive Frippe #1? 3. Where are the 1982 shows?

Hello Barry and Uncle Beaters The recent Friday Boots of 1972 and 1973 concerts – dynamite shows, Barry – have inspired my offering to this vine.
Hi wazoologist, welcome to the forums, and a mighty big thank you for this offering! So Barry, thanks for all the dynamite shows- if you would send me your snail mail address I would love to return the concert to Belgium I shall be sending you an IM with my address shortly, sir. 1. Is there an Aussie hub for the vines yet ? Although I believe a couple of vines have already gone down under, there's no Aussie "hub" AFAIK. This of course begs the question: would you mind taking up that role? 2. Top of my wish list is the Contempo concert May 15, 1970-any chance to revive Frippe #1? That shouldn't be a problem... just add your name to the chain and the last one who got it should be forwarding the show to you. 3. Where are the 1982 shows? Good question... If it's any consolation, there's currently an '81 show on offer at Gilles Friday Boot (part two, hope you didn't miss part one). OT: how does an Aussie get to see a FZ show in BRUSSELS Belgium, of all places?? Just curious...

Another great choice, Barry. What a guitarfest. Never really got into the Zappa-Vai combination but will now go back to listen more closely
OT: how does an Aussie get to see a FZ show in BRUSSELS Belgium, of all places?? Just curious... Well at the time I was working in North Sea,UK with a work schedule 14 days on 14 days off. When my break came around I embarked on an eventful little tour. Train from Aberdeen to London for a few days then ferry and train to Amsterdam. Here found my first Zappa bootleg-(Wasp Man or whatever that Mystery Disc and Beefheart one is called-since lost.) Also memorable here the couple of hours staring into Van Gogh paintings Next on the train to Den Haag to visit friends living there and a shopping trip where I found another Zappa bootleg (No Commercial Potential double album-still have it.) Another visit to Mauritshuis –my favourite art gallery. Before leaving, friends allowed me to record the bootlegs to cassette on their gear. Another train to Antwerp. Not far from the train station a movie theatre was showing 2001: A Space Odyssey on the giant screen so had to go see this again The next day took the train to Brussels and as funds were running low the plan was to overnight here and then return to UK. Just outside the railway station a poster advertised Zappa-Brussels-Jan 28 1977. I picked myself up from the footpath. Wow. Four days from now. Right here. Well first things first. Go to the ticket office and buy a ticket. Now for the calculations. Hotel room for 4 days. Room price includes breakfast. . If food is bought from market I can make my own sandwiches to go with the cones of potato chips they sell in the streets here Need to buy blank tapes. Make sure of ticket back to UK where funds are deposited. I can recharge the Sony’s batteries in the hotel room. Yes I can do it. So while Zappa, unknown to me was playing just over the border in Germany I spent my time walking around Brussels taking photographs and seeing the tourist sights. Is it here or was it Antwerp where they have the gallery with the huge room full of enormous Rubens paintings? Anyway, most of the time was spent listening to the trusty Sony playing my new boots and the newly released Zoot Allures. (Yes we bought Zappa on cassette in those days-still have them). By now Black Napkins had become my favourite Zappa song. Well the time came and I made my way to the venue. It was cold. The Sony was strapped over my right shoulder and under the right armpit under my overcoat. Security gave me a cursory pat and I entered the large arena and found my seat off to the left of the stage. Eventually I guess, the place was about half full and the concert got underway with Peaches. Ah! The Torture Never Stops from the new album. Then a bunch of new stuff which came out later on Sheik Yerbouti and Joe’s Garage. Who are these guys? Ray White and Terry Bozzio doing a lot of the vocals. Patrick on bass, Eddy Jobson on keyboards and off to one side Bald-headed John Smothers. He seemed to enjoy the acapella version of Dong Work For Yuda For the final number my hopes came true when Zappa cranked off Black Napkins. When Eddy Jobson stood up for his violin solo I was in heaven. This is still right up at the top of my favourite versions of the tune. After the concert it was great to listen to the tape as I walked back to the hotel. The next day took the trip back to UK. Now I see that it would have been possible to see 4 shows in Germany plus the Brussels gig and after 14 days at work could probably have got to Edinburgh, London, and even to Amsterdam!!!! Oh well, at least we have the tapes.
