Hi girls.

Welcome to the United States. It’s November 3rd, 2004, , about 1:20 in the morning after election night and it doesn't look good. To the rest of the world: Some of us tried to oust Dubya legally. For what it's worth, ... sorry.Anyway, check it out if you haven’t already. This happens to be my favorite FZ interview of all time: http://zappa.com/halloween/2004/interview.html I was glad to see that Gail or whoever posted it on zappa.com. The ZFT should consider releasing this recording officially on CD during the next four years. It's an important document and just might make some waves. Ten years ago, around the time Newt Gingrich led a Republican sweep of Congress, I remember ordering a cassette copy of this interview (and picking it up in person) from progressive KPFK, in Universal City, California, as part of a fund raiser the radio station was holding. And I have been espousing the virtues of this particular tape ever since, alienating certain friends in the process. It is ripe with a deliciously indignant, progressive, yet world-weary intellectual fire only Frank Zappa seemed capable of. Some topics covered: censorship, our poopy education system, voter apathy and its effects, the so-called liberal media, fascists in government, and the public's numbness to it all. His understanding of things was always prescient. Disarmingly so. Remember, it was recorded in 1990. The last three minutes are creepy. (His tone sounds like he'd just caught Fox News - THIS morning.) The bad guys in the three-piece suits had reasons to be afraid of him. Frank was one of the good guys. and, but, also...To the Bush administration (and all others peddling Armageddon masquerading as patriotism):

Don't worry... Reasonable people in "the rest of the world" know how to distinguish between people and their government. I come from Argentina, this happened very often to me (if not ALWAYS). It's unbelievable though... unbelievable that half of a country chose for more religious fundamentalism, corporativism and stupidity. It feels like going back in history for 500 years. It's too sad to tell. I don't blame my friends in the US for what is happening! Rather, i wish the best for them, given the present circumstances. It's in these moments where one misses the most a guy like Frank Zappa to speak his mind...

The way I see it, hey, America has obtained exactly what it wanted. Now it's going to have to live with that for the next four years. Let's see what it'll amount to: - no gay marriage - no stem cell research - tax cuts that benifit the rich - a war to fuel corporate america (pun intended, after the fact) - family values!
Who was it that said "it'll have to get worse before it gets better"? Whoever it was, here's to hoping he was right.
Tonight, all I can say is I feel very very relieved not to be living in the US - even though I must add that I fear this election will have an impact on any single one of us in the next years; American or not.
I'm not one to overstate things, but I'll say it anyway: today is a black day for all of us.
