FZ wouldn't like this
« on: January 16, 2004, 02:25:07 PM »

About a month ago, I posted a HotPoop entry on Kill Ugly Radio with a link to a website that linked to other websites that might link to a website where you can buy a poster to a movie so obscure that even the people who were in it don't remember it. I posted it as a joke, and Barry deleted it, because he thought that people might think Kill Ugly Radio sponsered the website.

The next HotPoop entry I made was a altered picture of the cover to the book Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them, with the logos for the FOX news network, and CNN, as well as a picture of Michael Jackson. I found this on the internet, and I thought that this was as funny as it was the truth.

I was banned from posting HotPoop entries for this.

Now, Barry, I don't want to pry into your personal decisions, but how is it that I can't post a picture calling CNN liars, but you can post a link to one of those stupid gag websites where you have to click 200, 000 messages before you get to the website, which is simply a picture of the guy who created the website, and the caption, "Have A Nice Day!"?

Frank Zappa was against censorship. Anyone with a hint of intelligence knows this. Unfortunately, I'm younger than you, and more intelligent.

How can a  Frank Zappa fan website advocate censorship?

How can you call me a baby for complaining that the Friday Boots aren't avalible long enough, and then censor my HotPoop posts. I think you're being much more of a baby than I am.

Hmmm... Let's see here. Who created this site, Hot Poop, and the Forums? Uhm... Oh yeah, Barry.
Who maintains the site, co-ordinating the efforts of several people for the enjoyment of many? Uhmm... Wait a minute, it's on the tip of my tongue... Barry!
Who pays the money to keep this baby rolling (yes, PayPal donations are gladly accepted, but let's be real for a minute)? Geez, that's a tough one - no wait! It's Barry!

Frank was also (tho' frequently absent) a pretty good parent, who bestowed upon his children some manners. Are your parents into FZ, TF? Just curious...
It is a pity though that your font of intelligence sprays such a small area.

I think we all know who the real baby here is, Barry. The real baby here is YOU.
Way to make your case, Perry Mason! Too bad that superior intelligence didn't warn you about the rabidly apparent immaturity of that last line...
All your credibility went right out the window with it. But, I bet you knew that already, huh? (Can't deny that ol' superior intelligence, no siree.)

Stopping a specific idea, thought, or word because of opposition to that said specific idea, thought, or word constitutes censorship. Telling a brat to shit down and shut up is good parenting.
Barry, I didn't know you had it in you...

Thanks for the biggest laugh I've had for a while there, SOFA!

A quote worth - uhhm - quoting (yeah, that's it)! Thanks, Bertanya, sorta the point to the whole thing...

(Hey! There's a quote from Bobagain, but I don't see the post from which it was taken. What's going on here? It couldn't have been censored?!)

Quote
Are you calling me stupid? I don't think someone with knowledge of the constitution of the united states of America can hardly be called stupid.
No Thing-Fish, I have not called you, nor am I calling you stupid. I do not know you personally, so a statement to that effect would be unintelligent... I believe you are old enough and intelligent enough to speak for yourself - which, I see, you have.
(FYI, I live in the US, have a VERY good working knowledge of the US Constitution, and don't necessarily equate that with intelligence. I'm sure that there are millions of very intelligent people in this world, who have no clue as to what is in the US Constitution and there are Constitutional Scholars out there who are downright idiots... Kinda how the world works.)
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to remove the "Rod O' Pleasure", and go to work.

Thing-Fish24, I agree with your main point. I hope you see, however, how someone wouldn't be able to agree with the manner in which you chose to bring it across. If you feel that you have a good argument, you needn't resort to insults. You could have five pages' worth of an excellent argument in your own defense -- but if the very last sentence is childish name-calling, it negates the effect of everything that came before it.

My guess is that you probably would have elicited a fair response from Barry, and maybe even an attempt on his part at trying to see this issue through your eyes, if you hadn't blown it by interjecting those silly insults. Personally, I was agreeing with you until your antagonistic remarks started, at which point I found myself glad that you were banned. Surely this isn't what you meant to get across.

Here's, verbatim, the email I sent TF to explain my actions:

Quote
From: Kill Ugly Radio
Date: Tue, 16 Dec 2003
to: Ibaranoff24@aol.com
Subject: Antw.: I can't post Hot Poop entries

Isaac,

As much as I'm sure that your intentions are sincere, I really feel you are too young to be posting on HotPoop. As a matter of fact, your reaction to my suspending you from posting, made that fact all the more clear. Apart from mailing me about the issue (which is the way to go; I was going to mail you back about that soon as I could),  you also splattered your discontent all over HotPoop and the forums. Now how do you think that makes you look, not only in my eyes, but in the eyes of everyone else reading HP/the forums? Fact of the matter is, I just can't be bothered with having to check each poster's entry; whether it's relevant, whether it fits the kind of content I want to see on HotPoop - I need to be able to rely on that poster's apt judgement. In your case I would've had to moderate your each and every post; and I'm sorry but I just don't have the time to do that.
You're a cool kid Isaac (I wouldn't have given you a shot at posting at HP otherwise), and given some time, I'm sure you'll make a great Zappa advocate. But for now, take it from an old dude like me that you need some time to ripen. I'm sure, in a couple of years from now, you'll be running a Zappa weblog just as I am. Walk first, then run, you know?

No hard feelings I hope,
Barry.

Ahem........................ where to start ?
Some time ago, I made a post on the forums when I most definitely should not have; I was slightly inebriated and had just had a blazing row with my partner - I insulted a highly esteemed and valued contributor to these forums who had been hanging out here much longer than I had, namely Frankie of the Hot Plate Heaven Forum.
As a consequence he has disappeared. I sincerely regret having made that post in anger and its repercussions for the individual concerned.
Also, the Hot Plate Heaven forum is no longer.
I am not posting this as an excuse or looking for any responses; this is merely a word of warning to give due consideration to the content of what you post and the potential consequences.

There's too much shit going on in the world as it is without it being allowed to creep into such a great place as K.U.R.

And by the way, I was not banned from K.U.R. as a result ( perhaps I should've been though ) I merely had difficulty in logging in.

Apologies Frankie.
Apologies Barry.
Apologies to all at Kill Ugly Radio.

Sometimes, it's just best to stay away from your computer when you've got too much beer / angst on board.

Right on Bob

I'm a law student and Bob's understanding of censorship comports with what I learned in my Constitutional Law class regarding the First Amendment.
