Jamming with Ike
« on: March 23, 2002, 09:57:07 AM »

I just thought I'd brag a little and tell you guys a bit of my experience with Ike Willis. Well, it started on March 19th in Bloomington, Indiana. My friend Jim and I went to see Project Object. I had already seen them 5 times prior to this occasion. (Zappening 2000, etc...) The 2nd to the last time I got to see them in Cincinnati, Ohio at the Barrel house, my friend Allen and I got to hang out with Ike for 6 and a half hours in his hotel room. I forget the name of the hotel but it was REALLY classy! So we were expecting another situation like that again. Boy was I in for a treat! We got to the place which was called the Bluebird (now remember, this is the show in IN) and I met up with Ike. I Gave him a huge hug and handed him some photos of Zappening 2000 that I promised them the last time I saw them. We catched up on the couple of weeks I missed on the tour and went to the dressing room and chilled. It was like that for the rest of the night. But after the second set, I was thinking back to the show at the Barrel House and how they had the guitarist of Moe come up and jam with them. So I asked Ike, "What would it take to jam with you guys tomorrow night in Lexington, Kentucky?" Ike knew that I was being serious cause I had that guitarist look in my eyes that explained I could pull it off. He said, ok. Watch the rest of the set and tell me the songs you would be most comfortable playing. So we watched the 2nd set and after it I had chosen "Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy", "Filthy Habits", and "Chunga's Revenge". So he said, "Well, I think we could put you in on Filthy Habits. Just bring your guitar to sound check tomorrow and we'll try you out." My eyes got huge and I said, "DEFINATELY!" So I ended up getting REALLY drunk that night and considering we had a 3 hour drive ahead of us back to Dayton, Ohio....I was surprised that we made it back alive. We ended up getting back around 6 in the morning and crashed. Woke up the next day at 1 and got my friend Jim up, called Biscuit and Shamen to get their asses up to go see me jam with Ike and P/O. We took off about 2. We were kinda on a tight schedule since we had to pick up a music stand Project Object left in Cincinnati at the Barrel House. Plus Ike told us to meet them there at 4 for sound check. So we did all that and finally made it up there around 5. Well the lucky thing is that I called up at the Bluebird around 4 to tell them that I would be late but they said that they weren't supposed to get there till 5. We ended up beating them there. (This is my 7th show so far) So we went to the bar next door to the venue and had a beer. They showed up, I helped them with their equipment as usual and then it was ready for sound check. They warmed up on "Inca Roads" and then it was my turn. I got up there and used Ike's amp and pedals and practiced "Filthy Habits" with the boys once with Ike conducting me. I proved that I could do it so they said, "Ok, you're in the show as our special guest." So the second set rolled in and right after "Crew Slut" it was time to go up on stage. This time I was plugged into a Fender Twin Reverb that Jordan was using for keyboards cause Ike was going to trade solos with me. We started off "Filthy Habits" and it couldn't have been more perfect! I got to jam the first solo for 3-4 minutes and then Ike took over. The entire song lasted about 7-8 minutes. It was one of the best times in my life! After the show we headed back to their hotel room and talked about how good the show went and some stuff Ike experienced with Frank. We also talked about Ike coming down to my place to jam. We ended up driving out of there around 5 in the morning. We video taped the show and now I have a little piece of Frank and Ike in my history....and more to come soon!

Hey Eric, thanks for stoppin' in.
I just thought I'd brag a little and tell you guys a bit of my experience with Ike Willis...
Cool story; I'm sure it will be a cherished memory for you.
Don't take this wrong. You need not have posted your tale twice. Once would have been plenty, and Strictly Critique the best place - at least, I didn't notice any questions for me and that's what we do here.
But thanks for writing,
Frankie
