Too old to rock'n'roll; too young to die.

Hello Frankie, I don't know why I'm here, really - I guess for some advice... I've certainly heard of you and your music over the years, but I never listened to it much; until recently. (I'm probably what you'd call a square - or staright arrow.) I recall a song about Mudsharks (?) from days past, I think that was my last exposure to your music - wait! I remember hearing that one with your daughter talking funny on the radio too. I didn't understand the appeal, personally. Last July for my birthday, I received your CD with the London Symphony as a gift from my son and, I must say, I am delighted by it. I've listened to it a lot in the past few months. I'm told (by my son) that you were not happy with it - for a number of reasons. And though I am curious to know why, that is not the advice that I seek. I'd like to hear a bit more of your music. I went to the local CD shop, but all they had was a multi-disk set with a cow on the front, which was a little more than I wanted to spend. The young man behind the counter was very nice, though, and showed me a catalog from which I could order any of your work. (He looked at me a bit oddly when I asked for you.) I looked at the list - and realized there was far too many titles for me to choose from. So, I'm wondering if you might steer me in the right direction. I realize that not all of your work is of a 'classical' nature and that's okay. I enjoy a wide range of music; I tend to listen to NPR. Thank you for your time - and the wonderful music cs

Hello Frankie, Hello cs, nice of you to drop by... I don't know why I'm here, really - I guess for some advice... You're probably wondering why I'm here; well, so am I. I've certainly heard of you and your music over the years, but I never listened to it much; until recently. (I'm probably what you'd call a square - or straight arrow.) I recall a song about Mudsharks (?) from days past, I think that was my last exposure to your music - wait! I remember hearing that one with your daughter talking funny on the radio too. I didn't understand the appeal, personally. Neither did I... And the irony is not lost on me that I've never heard of you until recently, either. Last July for my birthday, I received your CD with the London Symphony as a gift from my son and, I must say, I am delighted by it. I've listened to it a lot in the past few months. I'd like to hear a bit more of your music. I went to the local CD shop, but all they had was a multi-disk set with a cow on the front, which was a little more than I wanted to spend. You must mean Lather... Actually cs, that's a great place to start. But if cost is a factor, I guess I can see why you passed on it. The young man behind the counter was very nice, though, and showed me a catalog from which I could order any of your work. (He looked at me a bit oddly when I asked for you.) I looked at the list - and realized there was far too many titles for me to choose from. I bet you got an odd look... heh-heh. Yeah, my output macro-structure is pretty dense. I see your dilemna, cs. So, I'm wondering if you might steer me in the right direction. I realize that not all of your work is of a 'classical' nature and that's okay. I enjoy a wide range of music; I tend to listen to NPR. NPR, huh? That's what I used to listen to... Okay, cs. Here's what I suggest (from the little I can tell about you in your letter and profile): purchase "The Grand Wazoo" first; if that 'delights' - as I believe it will, purchase "Waka Jawaka" next. If you find that you're enjoying yourself, get "Hot Rats". If you're wondering whether you've made a mistake with the first two, get "Orchestral Favorites" - that should reassure you. Then get "Hot Rats"... Check those out a coupla times, and get back with me. Thank you for your time - and the wonderful music cs Thanks for writing, Frankie

Hi Frankie! Just checking in... I made The Grand Wazoo purchase as you suggested and I am "delighted" by it. I'll post my impressions to this board in Strictly Critique; if they don't let you out of Hotplate, I'll post it there too, if you'd like. Anyway, Waka Jawaka is next on my list. Everything is as you've predicted so far (How DO you do it?) and I wanted to say thanks! cs

Hi Frankie! Just checking in... Hey cs; nice of you to drop by. What's up? I made The Grand Wazoo purchase as you suggested and I am "delighted" by it. I'll post my impressions to this board in Strictly Critique; if they don't let you out of Hotplate, I'll post it there too, if you'd like. That's very nice of you to support the boards that way, cs. No need to post it twice, I'll read it over at Strictly Critique. Not let me out of Hotplate? Heh-heh. KUR can only dream of that kind of attention from me. I know they start biting their nails everytime a week goes by without me saying anything... Anyway, Waka Jawaka is next on my list. Everything is as you've predicted so far (How DO you do it?) and I wanted to say thanks! No problem, cs, that's what I'm here for. And sorry, but how I do it will have to remain my little secret. If everyone knew how, I'd become redundant. Thanks for writing, Frankie
