Well kids, today I finally went over to zappa.com, got myself a customer ID, clicked the FZ:OZ pic, and purchased a copy. Ordering went smoothly, no hassle at all (unlike my first attempt several months ago...). Now I can only wait! Any idea on how long deliveries oversea take?

...and wait you shall, if my experience is typical.

I asked 'em, "Where's my order?" Well, it was eaten by snakes. You can stab 'n shoot 'n spit. But they won't be fixin' it.

Bob Again, so how long DID you wait? I placed my order on October 4th, expecting to have it shipped out the same day (as the site claims is likely to happen for online orders). Hell, for $7.95 shipping, you'd think they could get it to you fast. I'm on the East Coast, by the way.

I think Bob is still awaiting his package... A question, Bob: where are you from? US? Europe? I'm guessing I'll have to wait about a month for the goods to arrive. Francis: let us know when you receive yours, and what you think of it!

I placed my order last week of August, via the new and improved Barfko-Swill (BS) on-line. I received a very professional email confirming the order almost immediately. A week went by and my credit card had never been charged. So, I decided to call BS and check the status of the order. Each of three telephone calls was answered by a cheerful person who put me on hold. Each of these cheerful persons returned to the line to tell me they would have to call me back "shortly". None of these calls was actually returned.

I never received the order, nor was my credit card charged. I'm sure they lost the order. Rather than admit that, though, and try to make sure the order actually was filled; the folks at ZFT have ignored me.

I look at it as their loss. I don't have the CD, but I have an OK copy I was able to make from another source.

I have ordered from BS several times over the years. Now that I think about it, I had to call and "goose" them to process the order each time. I hate to say it, but these folks are flakes. They live in the glass house Frank built and can't be shielded from that criticism.

Now, as to same day shipping - go back and read what they actually say. ZFT are masters of weasel words. The BS FAQ page is peppered with them. Words such as "many" "most" "should", etc. It might be a typo, but after suggesting many orders receive same day treatment, they say you should receive your order in 4-6 business WEEKS !! I know this is a cottage industry and I give them the benefit of the doubt, but can't make excuses for them. Afterall,

1. My order was placed shortly after they began shipping the IPO's.

2. My order was placed shortly after they launched the new and improved BS.

3. I, myself, stated (in an uncharacteristic moment of goodwill) I hoped they would be swamped by orders.

I have been supporting, in my small way, the ZFT and their economic needs for close to four decades. If they don't want my cash this time - so be it. I'm not going to chase them down.

PS - check the FAQ about the credit/discount they are awarding to the IPO participants. Yes, it's another promise yet to be fulfilled. "We are in the process..."

I got an email last night stating that my order has been shipped! No UPS tracking number was given, but perhaps I can call to ask for it...

I can't celebrate just yet... I called to get a ship tracking number. The guy on the phone said he was out yesterday when it was shipped, and that the guy who was in yesterday is not in now. Anyway, he can't find my name on their shipping manifest from yesterday, which concerned him (and me). He said he would try to get in touch with the other guy and call me back.

Maybe I should just sit back and wait. Sometimes too much information makes more problems than it solves?

OK... NOW I can celebrate!

My wife confirmed that FZ:OZ has made it to our doorstep. Ordered online 10/4, arrived on the east coast 2 weeks later. That's pretty slow, IMO, but a lot better than what many others have had to deal with, so I'll be grateful!

Can't wait to get the heck home tonight!!

Aah great news Francis!

???well, I'm knocked out by all the talk on the aussie cd. I've been asking for help since the shipping finally got started. I had the unfortunate idea of moving. You see, I notified barfko and zappa .com two mos. prior to the shipping of my new address to have the cd which cash was already taken from my NOVUS card and put aside. But the assholes at barfko when e-mailed about the delivery way after shipping began answer like this-- we sent it you got it. then I get a tracking # for UPS these dumb all over assholes have the nerve to say date of delivery sept. 3, 2002 item placed inside the door. well, zappa.com says let them know what I have learned about my cd delivery I tell them they don't answer barfko doesn't care so I am out my cash. But I'll probably find a way to reorder because you see, I've been a freaked out zappa fan since zappa played the village at the garrick theater in the sixties. I cannot blame zappa but to think that we sent it you got it is the way barfko does business sucks. I'm truly bummed out But, I am sorry to say this but glad that I am not alone in this crap of corporate screwing.

Bob Again, it was cool of you to let me go early Friday. pappap999, I'm sorry to hear of your plight, and also amazed to hear that you were around for the historic Garrick theater days. I was a newborn baby in the suburbs on the other side of the Hudson at the time.

I will have to post a review of FZ:OZ in another thread when I have time. It is really knocking my socks off! I give it a rousing thumbs up -- well worth the money -- and a great pick from the vault.

Take my advice for what it's worth (and it will surely guarantee you a place on the ZFT shitlist, as they threaten in the BS/FAQ).

If you have copies of your correspondence with ZFT/BS, I'd send it to your credit card company and file a dispute against ZFT. You probably still won't get a copy of the CD, but at least you will get your money back.

I would guess ZFT gets ripped off fairly often - they sort of ask for it, don't they? They seem to enjoy making a sport out of jerking people around, though, rather than expending any effort trying to remedy a screw-up.
