Does anyone here know any more details about the new release? Here's what I know. According to a conversation I had yesterday with a guy at the office (818-PUMPKIN) and the taped message at 818-PUMPKIN this morning, there will be a 2-CD Frank Zappa live in Australia thingie. More details (ordering information, etc.) to be announced next week. Anybody know any more? While I'm here, I'd like to start a lobby to get "Mothermania" released on CD. Whatcha think, eh? It's a great collection, with some extra added goodies that weren't on the original 3.

Maybe checking the reply already given at the Zappa-List is a good place to start... The sun never sets on the cool.

The new release was due end February. <sarcasm> And whaddayaknow, we're early March, and there's no release! I'm so stunned by this!! Who'd 've thought, eh? </sarcasm> And don't get me started on the long awaited (and still unseen) Roxy video...

Is it so common for this kind of waitin' around for Gail to move her butt? Before makin' such a remark though; is it Gail that's to blame?

I think Gail pretty much runs zappa.com. As such, she's responsible for the messages that have been sent into the online community through the site, promising this or that release, by this or that date. Not a single one of those dates have been met so far. So yes, the ZFT (Zappa Family Trust), I feel, is putting us on... Welcome aboard, by the way loukeb! Rumor has it the show is sydney 76, which would be a very good thing. As I'm sure everyone knows by now, they're having some deal where the first 5000 preorderers get their names listed in the credits. Five Thousand!?!?!? And there won't, presumably, be any shipped til those 5000 orders come in. I look forward to the insightful liner notes which accompany the 20 pages of "credits" in the packaging. Methinks it is just another delay tactic. The order form I filled out 3-11 said to expect delivery in 4 to 8 weeks. I'll be surprised if it is delivered by Labor Day.

I'm concerned about the 5000 number as well. Are there 5000 of us hard-core enough to 'go for it' in spite of Barfko-Swill's track record? I've ordered three different times from them, there was a problem two of the three times. Yet I did my pre-order. I'm hoping that this is the beginning of a string of releases from that bulging vault. I'm not too secure about my 'investment' at this point.

Don't know if you've noticed, but there's a new email-address at zappa.com: vaultmeister@zappa.com. Someone on a list I subscribe to mailed the guy, and got a surprisingly quick response. Appropriately vague, it stated that 'they're hoping to release more in the future, and not solely via BarfkoSwill.' It's their intention to get the albums to the shops. Well that's good, since I'm not too fond of (pre-)ordering stuff online altogether...

My only experience dealing with Barfko prior to this preorder nonsense was when I ordered FZPTMOFZ. After six weeks, I received the sheet music to Freak Out. I did eventually receive the correct product. I expect nothing more competent this time round.
You know Zappa was perhaps right in his critique of the Grateful Dead for being what they were, but at least the hippies have been able to crank out 26 live shows on the Dick's Picks series alone. The ZFT could stand to learn a lesson from those making a fortune on the Garcia legacy.

I'll go out on a limb here and suggest that what the ZFT could "learn" from the Dead Organization is to find someone with an intimate knowledge of FZ concerts (might as well read bootlegger, bootleg collector, or tape trader, with a vast knowledge of recording techniques) to run the vault. For that is what the Dead Organization has that the ZFT doesn't. SOFA

Yeah, I don't see any point in worrying about it, yet. They said 4-8 weeks. It's only been, what, about 7 weeks? If nothing happens in the next month or so, well.... Let's just say, I'm not expecting to get fucked in this deal. I hope.
