Where Can I Go?
« on: May 08, 2003, 03:40:51 PM »

......to find find some Zappa bumper stickers?  I have a great desire to festoon our new van and my car.  I would really like to have a reproduction of the Ship Arriving Too Late To Save a Drowning Witch cover, but something else would do.

Say "Funny Cars"

I'm sorry DebK, I don't know the answer to that one.
The people over at planet zappa probably know who has them but I would guess they're unlikely to part with them.

I suppose you could save yourself a lot of money by printing them off, laminating them and then sticking them on your van.

Thanks for the suggestion, Guac!  I really should have thought of that before,  but my printer has been non functional for a while.  One question, though, what kind of adhesive would you use?

Another thought was a window cling.  I did one of FZ from the Strictly Commercial cover tracing with permanent marker on saran wrap.  It works great on mirrors, but seems not to stick to car windows.  I think it needs heavier plastic.  Well, another trip to the art supply store!

"What kind of adhesive would you use ?"

well that depends I suppose on whether you intend running your van / car into the ground until the end of its life, or, selling it on to someone else.

perhaps your local automobile dealers paintshop operative could advise on the least damaging fixative ?

I found a Zappa on the toilet sticker at a little record store by my school. Unfortunately it wasn't the most durable sticker and began to get weathered as it was stuck on the back window of my car. I peeled it off before it was completely destroyed. That little record store has since gone out of business.  Cry I've looked around and haven't found another one like it (actually no Zappa stickers at all). You might try a little record store in your town...You know the kind that smell funny, with dirty carpet, and have that very friendly, and very stoned guy working the counter.

Hehhehhehheh! (rubbing hands together).  With a modicum of artistic talent (and sticky paper) we can continue our work of helping freakiness flourish (at least that's one of my life goals).

Thanks a mil, WFU!   The sticky paper works like a charm.  So now I have made myself a SATLTSADW bumper sticker, a Lather, a Sheik Yerbouti, one that says "Got Zappa?" and one with a Zappa quote "Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible."  and several small round ones with "Got Zappa?" on them.   I have more stickers than bumper!

Excuse me, I must now go and paper the town!  Cheesy

I'd like to have a printer that's capable of printing on toilet paper. I could glean endless hours of optional recreation from something like that....

Now that is an idea certainly worthy of research and development!  The marketing potential is ENORMOUS.  Just imagine....a portrait of your favorite villain on each and every sheet.  How about a series of portaits: the House of Representatives in its entirety?  Boy bands (each member with his mouth open)...televangelists (they've ALWAYS got their mouths open)...how about a facsimile of every government form in existence?  At least then they'd serve a sensible purpose.  Gosh...the mind boggles at the possibilities...

Barely on a related note to images on toilet paper, I heard that at one time they produced urine pucks (the little smelly devices found at the base of a urinal) with the image of Osama Bin Ladden's face.  The entrepreneur who came up with the idea got rich quick as the novel opportunity to pee on Osama was in high demand.  The demand was so high in fact that people were stealing them from the urinals.  The sad story was that the entrepreneur had alraeady started producing the pucks by the thousands, but the establishments stopped buying them as the cost of replacing them was too much.  The entrepreneur was left with thousands of pucks collecting dust in the warehouse.

Maybe the moral of the story is that, even while being pissed on, Osama is a threat to the US economy.

Update on the bumper stickers:  They are not waterproof.  I got permanent markers, so the ink doesn't run, but the paper falls apart if it gets wet.  The only way around this problem, I think is to laminate them.  They still work terrific as stickers, but not bumper worthy---yet!

Since you brought up the subject Deb K - I thought I'd have a go at making a bumper sticker too. It is laminated and has been in place for about a month now. With the amount of rain we get here - practically daily ! - it has remained waterproof.

Doesn't lamination cover the sticky side?

You laminate whatever design you want to use as a sticker and then you put on the double sided adhesive paper.
