It all started with 'Son of Cheap Thrills'
then it went to
'Zoot Allures'
'Jazz from Hell'
'Apostrophe(')'
'Joe's Garage'
'Sheik Yer bouti'
'Shut up 'N play yer guitar'
'Just another Band from LA'
'Were only in it for the money'(I traded it for 'LA')
I recorded Burnt Weenie Sandwich, Chungas Revenge, The Lost Episodes, YCDTOSAM 2, Guitar, and Strickly Commercial'
then I got
'200 Motels Soundtrack'
'Freak Out'
'YCDTOSTA 1'
'Grand Wazoo'
'Roxy & Elsewhere'
'Cheap Thrills'

and the last one I got was 'Cruisin with Rueben & the Jets'

This collection has taken four years to put together.  They are all on CD.

I have pretty much all the official releases, with the exception of "Thing-Fish" (never really got into that one) and the latest Halloween dvd-a thingamabob (I don't have a dvd-player. I don't want a dvd-player). All of them are on cd, most are from the Ryko-release (not so for Roxy, WakaJawaka and a couple others that I can't think of right now). On vynil I have Just Another Band from LA and Roxy&Elsewhere. The latter I bought mostly for the coverart and just because I love that album to pieces (since I already had it on cd).
All this has taken me about 8 years (and a lotta money!) to collect. Only now am I starting to have a  look at boots. Did you know you can download those from the internet in these modern days?? Incredible! Grin Oh, I do own one BeatTheBoots (Unmitigated Audacity), one vynil called "Peepers", about 15 "unofficial" cd-boots and about 5 CT's...

As for books, I have Electric Don Quixote, TRFZB, Negative Dialectics of Poodle Play, Being Frank, Candy Zappa's recently released book and Miles' In His Own Words.

Gasp. You'd think I could have put a small South American country out of its misery with the amount of money I spend on FZ.

Everything officially released on CD and an evergrowing number of bootlegs. I'm glad the question wasn't "how much have you spent on your FZ collection ?"
I'd rather not think about that one.

Don't you have Man from Utopia?  And it better be the LP, as the CD sucks! Grin

I have all the legit releases on CD except for OZ Baby Snakes and HIOA.  Oh yeah and the various albums that went to make up Lather (I should be getting them soon - I hope!)

I have The Beat the Boots series except for Swiss Cheese/Fire! (which I am due to receive soon (I think!)
As far as videos are concerned:  I have 200 Motels and Baby Snakes, All of the Honker Home Videos, Head (cameo appearance of our fearless leader), Run Home Slow, Worlds Greatest Sinner,  the Steve Allen Show appearance, and various TV shows.

I have collected these (some of the music for the second time, since I was a listener earlier , but lost track of FZ for a while) in the past couple of years.

It has given me a lot of pleasure and a whole hell of a lot to think about.  Sometimes it is difficult to get a handle on this vast body of work.  But  I keep on tryin'  :-)

I am sure some think I am insane.  Why would you, a reasonable (?) adult woman want to be a Zappa head?  I just smile and keep on listening, thinking to myself, "You just don't get it, do ya?".  The music is great and much of what he says confirms my experiences in life and/or is entertaining.

How can a CD's sound quality be worse than an LP?

Oh yeah, I forgot that I have Hot Rats....

Man From Utopia was one of the first albums that Frank remastered and remixed for CD.
And he did a horrible job, as he changed orchestartions and added too much reverb on Moggio---on Cocaine desicions the floor tom buckles the speakers,---and the worst is the Steve Vai Guitar parts on Dangerous Kitchen and Jazz Discharge Party Hats---they are almost non existant.  Whereas on the LP, the his parts are as loud as Frank's Vocals.

Frank was a master of the LP mastering, but he went overboard on the Utopia CD, and ultimately made it sound like shit.

Yes, the album sounds much better than the CD.  Of course CD's have a pure sound, but when that sound is screwed up it sounds worse.
Get a mint copy of the LP, transfer it to CD and you will know what I mean.

Aww, isn't that sweet?  A coupla chumps are trying to turn this site into another hopeless waste of space.  What's the matter?  Do you think your personal spats and name-calling interest anyone at all?  Grow up!  Opinions are like assholes...  Have you guys already been thrown out of every other FZ forum?  Don't you people have anything constructive to say?  If you have any concrete evidence as to WHY one sounds better than the other, fine, but DON'T BASH THE OTHER JUST FOR THE SAKE OF BASHING.

Now, getting back to the main topic of the thread, let me tell you about my Zappa collection.  My FZ collection consists of experience, knowledge and skills.  One skill, for example, is the long-lost art of common sense.  Another is honesty.  Common sense is telling me right now that some folks here are getting too bent out of shape over petty shit.  Honesty has convinced me that I should let you know, because maybe you might not even know you're doing it.

Regardless, I think I'm speaking for most of us when I suggest you shape up or ship out.

Zackly my sentiments, LCS.  Gods, lets not turn this into another AFFZ fer cryin out loud!

Personally I have nothing against profanity for emphasis, but childish spats are another thing.  After all, FZ insisted on using the word "fuck" on stage. Cheesy
