Hi folks. I know, I know, but it happens to the best of us. Yep, I'm tying the knot with my nearest and dearest* early next year (2003) and we're choosing our soundtrack. So, who's going to recommend a couple of Zappa tracks that won't get granny all hypertensioned yet will allow this Cat to enjoy the hallowed works of the Maestro du Prunes...? I thought about WOE-H (that's Watermelon on Easter-Hay for those who don't live in acronymia), but sadly all my copies have the central scrutiniser pooting forth all over the intros, which kinda makes it a little less conventionally acceptable in company... TC '..' * who has yet to see the blue light of Zappadom... but I'm a working on it!

The walking out music could easily be Strictly Genteel. Several versions to choose from. I told my honey I thought it would be great if the organist could learn the second part of flakes, right after the Bob Dylan part, to play when we walk out, so all those in the know would crack up at the inside joke of the missing lyrics: "Im a moron, and this is my wife...."

Well, it all depends on how much you like Granny Howabout Cosmik Debris? Or The Gumbo Variations? Or Evelyn, The Modified Dog? Or something from The Yellow Shark? Or...erm... Inca Roads? Trouble is, my mind has gone a blank, and i can't remember exactly how perverse these songs are! It it were my wedding, I'd get them to play Penis Dimension, Bobby Brown and Crew Slut... lets just hope I never get married, for the vicar's sake!

I have to confess i've been thrilled about this question last days...Direct observation of my mother and sister told me that Zappa is not easily accepted by them...You know, mothers and sisters are the kinda people who attend weddings, no?
But: since the wedding is next year, i'll promiss i'll make a list later! I think there has to be something to suit that! BTW: which ones are the preferred ones of your girlfriend? that may help indeed...

BTW: which ones are the preferred ones of your girlfriend? that may help indeed Urm, she's not a Zappa fan. I've tried, indeed, but she's yet to 'catch'. However, she's conceding me the right to choose some of my tracks (reluctantly ) and so here I am wit' de ques-chan. Thinks of the lyrics to " Bamboozled by love".... for a moment... nah, nah! Hmmmmm.... yeah, gotta stamp my foot down! TC '..'

Were I to take the thread (and TC) seriously, I'd say "Love of my Life" - if it has to be a song written by FZ. Otherwise, "Directly from my Heart to You" or "The Closer You Are" would certainly be appropriate for any wedding ceremony. Save "Bamboozled" for the reception. I suggest that it immediately follow "I Have Been in You", and precede "Stuff Up the Cracks". I could be available to DJ the entire affair, if you pay me my regular fee... It's only a nominal service charge.

Some more: "Charva" (if your father in law is a liquor store owner); "I promise not to come in your mouth" if your soon to be spouse can handle a bit of misplaced humour on the conjugal night (besides, it's a wonderful tune regardless), "Sharleena" (the Lost Episodes version preferably), a heartbreakingly honest account of uhh unacounted for love; and you know, for opening dance, I would sincerely consider "Watermelon in Easter Hay". And what better way to close it off, then with "Take your clothes off when you dance"? Loads of potential here...

Ah, the familiar sound of lonely person devices...

Something nice for the ceremony would definitely be Strictly Genteel (I know someone already posted that suggestion.) I also think Envelopes could work well. But I think if you need to please a mass of people, Strictly Genteel is the best bet. Just make sure you play something that no one can dance to at the reception. Remember | "That's a pedestrian beat, you don't dance to that beat." |

Who are you? I live here. I live here. That's my name too. Were you ever not living here? I don't think so. Nah, I was in a drum.

Cool thread!
Our wedding band played "Love of My Life" for our first dance. They used the YCDTOSA-4 version to rehearse with. They did a slower redition, which worked fine for me, cuz I can't dance any better than Frank could.
