One of the reasons Frank Zappa’s music has been so appealing to me throughout the years is because so many of his compositions like “Little House I Used To Live In” function as a canvas for his musical ideas (a microcosm of his musical universe you might say) in which a new song might very well emerge within them during each new performance.

Have a little patience while the guy Ian Tanner wrestles his way through Village Of The Sun first, then… check it out:

Italo Zappa

Funniest thing: two Italians writing in with Zappa related links almost simultaneously.

Then there’s Il Signore Sterbini who introduced me to a band called The Cardiacs. These guys merge FZ’s rhythmic sophistication with the “educated” punk of The Clash — and then some:

A Concert For Jimmy

This just in from The Idiot Bastard — the schedule for tomorrow’s Jimmy Carl Black tribute concert:

  • 17:30 – Doors open
  • 18:00 – Introduction by MC Ben Watson
  • 18:15 – The Muffin Men
  • 19:15 – The Thurston Lava Tube
  • 20:00 – premiere of Jimmy & Candy Zappa’s Stolen Cadillac
  • 20:15 – Fraz Knapp jam session (with surprise special guest stunt guitarist)
  • 21:00 – premiere of Evil Dick’s The Horrors Of Local Government with film
  • 21:15 – That Legendary Wooden Lion
  • 22:00 – disco with DJ Chilli until chucking out

There will also be a raffle in there somewhere, with some very nice prizes… All proceeds from this event will go to the family of JCB. Tickets here.
