With smoking becoming more and more socially inacceptable, I’m curious to know how KUR readers think about the topic. Do you smoke? Trying to quit? Think smokers are pitiful idiots? A poll to the rescue!
Disclosure: I’m a smoker myself.

The Governor of my State is trying to make me quit - by taxing the shit out of cigarettes, making them almost unaffordable…

I voted Have Been, Not Anymore…but I’d like to go beyond that. Here in Colorado, they are trying to make it illegal to smoke in Bars/Pubs/Restaurants. I am strongly against that. If I were an Owner, I would not want a “Nanny State” government telling me how to run my business. If my employees don’t like it, they can work someplace else! If my customers don’t like it, they can choose another place to go.
We put up with these “Nanny-Types” all too often here. I’m a big boy…I can make up MY OWN MIND!
((In some cities, there are movements to prevent people from smoking IN THEIR OWN HOUSES!))

I said No, But I Don’t Mind… The studies that people like to use for evidence against second-hand smoke are false reports that have been verified as so. Second-hand smoke does nothing to harm your body or anything else as inisidious as groups like to make you think. The only people smoking harms are the smokers themselves. I don’t mind smokers, and I don’t mind second-hand smoke.

Here in California, smoking has recently been banned in most public places. I do not smoke, but I have been playing music in bars for over 20 years. I have always thought it was borderline fascism when our supposedly democratic government tries to tell us what is good for us. Sure, I don’t enjoy smelling like an ashtray after my shows, but I chose to play in establishments where people smoke. And these days, most bar owners ignore the ban and let their customers smoke anyway…..smoking isn’t dead, it just smells funny.

We were SO worried about Big Brother!!!
It’s really Big MOTHER that’s the problem.
“Don’t go in there, there’s BEES and SPIDERS!
You might poke your eye out…WAIT TILL YOUR FATHER GETS HOME!!!!”

I quit smoking many years ago for my own reasons. Smoking, like a lot of other unhealthy and wasteful practices, doesn’t make much sense to me. Yeah, OK, it’s a complicated issue with complicated arguments.
I drive a vehicle that gets poor gas mileage. My use of this vehicle contributes to illness, economic woes - even war!
Perhaps they should outlaw driving SUV’s to bars and restaurants to cure that social ill as well…

Is there a way to see results of the pole without voting again? …just curious.

Bob: yes. See those 3 little colored bars bottom right of the voting box? Click on them and you’ll see the results.

I’m not a smoker and I get nosebleeds if somebody smokes in my direct vicinity (which is an awful bore if I want to go to concerts, movies or restaurants). Where can I get that vote in?

Erh, that’s a “Die smoker die!” vote, I suppose…

O well, sorry, didn’t see I could scroll down.
Silly me, not smoking apparently kills brain cells as well.
