CNN (!) has an article on Miles’ FZ biography: “I think it was the ordinariness, the emptiness of much of his experience, particularly growing up in the desert, where there was little in the way of architectural, visual stimulation or anything else,” he says. “That enabled his creative ability to come to the fore, to make up for much of what was missing in his life.”

A message from zappa.com: “We regret to inform you that Warner Bros (under the guise of “WEA Labels & Lifestyles Sales” - ugh!) and Ryko, our favorite home teams, will no longer support Barfko-Swill in our efforts to provide you with the original FZ Catalog.”

“The coolest thing about the Thing is that everyone responds to seeing it by asking questions. Where did I find it? Is it an internal organ? Is it some sort of fetus? Would it go well with pasta?” (via eskimokaka)

Josh, also known as Shadow Mercy, Jessica, who calls herself Misery Whispers and Anton who is known as Lord Mercy, are all Goths and 12-years-old. “I listen to Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, Green Day, Good Charlotte and other sorts of punk metal or gothic rock. I like to do magic spells and to look at runes books.” Kids today! (Don’t miss the comments at the bottom…)

Check out McRorie Tait’s one-man-band, it is truly amazing. One can’t but wonder what would happen if this guy were to take on a Zappa tune!
(Thanks Tom!)

Well that was telling, wasn’t it. Seems the majority of Z-fans who read KUR, are in the 30 to 40 range, closely followed by the 40+ contingent. Beyond/below that, online interest fades. But hey! We have a new poll for you. Check the polling box to the right…

Props to Evaristo for having found “the hidden link between Zappa and the Tropicalia Movement”. The article in question has Rogerio Duprat reminiscing his encounter with FZ in Darmstadt — way back in 1962! Any Portuguese readers that can translate for the rest of us?

Mentioned in a Miles’s book recent review by David Allen: “Meanwhile, local Zappa fans Derek Miley and Adam Fiorenza are still plugging away on their documentary about the “Freak Out!” musician’s early days.” “The filmmakers, both 22, are working on a documentary focusing on Zappa’s “Cucamonga years” and campaigning for the city to memorialize the rock revolutionary. (…) is a Zappa tribute too far-out for this conservative suburb? Fiorenza and Miley don’t think so, and neither does Alexander.
“The people who listened to Zappa” in their youth, says Fiorenza, “are now the people in suits.” (reg. req. — login idiot@moi.com, pass: cucamonga)

This one reads like a Stephen King short story — roommate from hell: “He set fire to our carpet with alcohol during a party. He pissed in the fridge. He shat in the fridge. He shat in the crisper drawer. He shat on the oven top, and instead of cleaning it up, turned on the burner, reasoning that carbon is easier to clean than feces.” (Be sure to read the whole thing!)

Be prepared to lose a couple of hours when entering badmovies.org. Wonderfully informative reviews such as “I don’t understand the plot, but there were lots of elephants” abound and each movie has its own video-sample section. Cheepnis galore!
