"God, it's God! I see God!"
and
"Outa sight, yeah --listen, uhm, d'you, are you . . .? ARE YOU HUNG UP?"
are Eric Clapton's contributions to FZ's 1968 record WOIIFTM. That's right, you heard right: just speech, no guitar. Disappointed? Don't be.
Was this before Cream?
No. I'd estimate about the same time. Clapton was already popular through the Yardbirds and John Mayall. Cream was formed in 1966 and Fresh Cream was released the same year. They eventually broke up in 1969.
kinda cheesy.
I don't think it's THAT cheesy...it is to a certain degree, but I think it has rather creepy undertones, especially during "The Chrome-Plated Megaphone of Destiny" and "Are You Hung Up?"
I dunno, I find it somewhere in between cheesy and creepy. After all, the sixties was a different era. The mores relaxed over time; what is considered mild to us was apalling to folks those days. Why do you think Ed Sullivan's producers refused to film Elvis below the waist? Was his cock ring showing? Sorry, no. He was just gyratin' too much.

chessey?! jeezurrrrz. it's brilliant. but enough editorialising. yep, that is eric clapton on WOIFTM. but no, he ain't playin' gee-tar. his is the very first voice on the lp asking "are you hung up?" repeatedly. he later reappears on nasal retentive calliope music saying "beautiful. i see god" or words to that effect. no doubt a reference to a popular piece of graffitti in london that said "clapton is god." around 1977 punks added the word "awful" to it, which i find amusing. but i do like ec. cream started recording by 1966. cream's bassist jack bruce was working with fz by the mid 70s.

I don't know, I may be weird. (yes, yes everybody sit down please!) But I always found the music on WOIIFTM to be amusing, funny, the sounds that were played with were very interesting to me. I did not find it creepy. Now, when I finally read the Kafka story, then I was creeped out. I have no difficulty seeing the absurdity in the flower power situation, even though at the time I was a kinda pseudo hippy. It is not my most favorite album, but it's up there. Does not beat out Absolutely Free imho. Sab
