Private Messaging - A How-To
« on: April 11, 2005, 10:54:41 AM »

Recently, I've been getting quite a bunch of emails addressed to me, that were actually meant for some other member of the forums. I don't know how you people manage to do this (you know who you are Smiley ) and even though I don't mind getting to read your private messages, I think a little How-To is in order.

So! You want to let another person know about your snail mail (or whatever)? Please do the following: click on the forum member's name (it'll get you to his/her profile page), then locate the "Send this member a Private Message"-link, and click on that. Viola! Instant Private Messaging Galore!

Thanks! Wink

Okay, this topic needs a bump since things haven't gotten any better...
When you receive an email from webmaster@killuglyradio.com which contains something like:
Quote
(Today at 02:18:36pm) xxx@xxx.xx has sent you the following Instant Message:
--imaginary message--

... please realize that this is only a notification email, automatically sent through the webmaster@... address. In other words: please do not hit your reply button! If you do, your message will end up in MY mailbox and I will have to tell you once again that you need to use the forum's IM system! Instead, see who messaged you, go to the forums and locate the person's profile page where you'll be able to IM him/her.

Thank you so much!

Please you guys. I keep getting emails that are meant for other members of the forum.
Please take a second to read how you're supposed to contact forum members.

A way to solve this maybe:

Instead of sending an email with the message content ...
(which may still be confusing to some ...):

Have the system send a notification email only, just saying:
"You have received a private message" with a link directing the recipiant to the message board. This way everybody who has received a message will have to login and check the message board and automatically have the opportunity to reply to the person it's really meant for ...

It's working  pretty well this way with other forums ...

Just my two cents ... Wink
