Bend over and spread 'em: here come the stubs!
« on: May 03, 2005, 03:08:22 PM »

At the Wiki somebody - I think it's Duncan - is experimenting with "stubs".

Within the Wiki Jawaka, a stub is an (seemingly) "underdeveloped" article: a very short article, generally of one paragraph or less. Most stubs fail to cover all but the most trivial subjects completely. However, this does not mean the stub is not a legitimate article - it just needs to be "expanded".

Visitors are encouraged to expand it (if they can find it).

I think it's a good idea, the stub thing. And I think the idea can be improved by creating a page (linked from the "Main Page") listing all the "stubbed" articles (pages carrying the tag "{{stub}}"). This way they can be easily located and - potentially - expanded...

Also:

There is a list of Dead End Pages which are lonely pages that have no links to anywhere else in the Wiki.

So, for example, selecting Bruce Bickford from the Dead End list will take you to the Bruce Bickford page.  This has stuff mentioned in it that has yet to be linked to their own pages.

Once you have set up a Wiki account you can click the edit tab at the top of the page and start to make changes.  To make a link you simply need to a enclose the item within two square brackets - change "Video From Hell" to [[[Video From Helll]]]. Click on Show Preview to admire your work. Your link will be blue if the page exists or red if there is no such page.  Capitalise titles so "A Token of His Extreme" becomes [[[A Token Of His Extreme]]].

Click the This is a minor edit box and then Save Page.
But don't save this example Bruce Bickford page for now - select another Dead End page from the list to work on - there are plenty to choose from Smiley

Use the discussion tab at the top of the page if you want to raise any questions or just leave some information for another user to add to an article later. You Preview and then Save discussions as on the Edit section.

Nope.

Feel free to spend countless hours tracking down pages marked as {{stub}} though.
Translation: this is simply not a feasible idea - certainly not at this point...
