200 Motels
« on: January 03, 2004, 08:39:39 AM »

I finally found a CD of this, but the version I have appears to be a promotional copy given out before the release of the CD in '97. It has an orange cover with a white area in the middle where it says, in black letters, "Sneak Preview" and "Frank Zappa's", and, in orange, "200 Motels." On the inside is an insert with a black-and-white copy of the original cover art, and on the back of it is an advertisement for the release of the remastered CD in '97.

Just a few questions:
has anyone here ever seen/heard this? Is there any difference between it and the version released in '97 in sound quality?

Sidenote: have there been any comments made by the ZFT or anybody else to get the rights to this and put it back into print?

Nobody has an answer? really?
Damn, guess I'll never find this out unless I find a remastered version.

Sorry, gramps.  Seems to me you've got a rarity there.  I have NEVER seen 200 Motels as a CD, let alone a promotional pressing.  The only copy I could ever get my grubby hands on was an old, somewhat worn LP.

Yeah it does sound like a rarity Gramps.
The CD version I've got is from the Rykodisc MGM Sountrack Series catalogue number RCD 10513/14.

I do know about a 200 Motels promo but in red (RCD 10513/14 ADV)

Check out his page: http://www.kompaktkiste.de/zappa_p.htm#half.

I don't know if they were made in different colors.

Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe. -FZ-
