The Phillips stereo had been giving me a few problems for about a year -- shorts and whatnot. Thus it was with great pleasure that I unplugged it last night, following its refusal to work anymore at all (finally!), and carried it, ritual-sacrifice-like (oo-oo-ah-ah-oo-ahh), to the dumpster across the parking lot at our complex. I threw it in violently, and let me tell you, throwing away electronic things violently is a great way to vent. You get that nice CLANG! sound against the metal, and the stereo looks up at you, totally surprised and confused. Ha! Take that, you silly plastic Japanese lemon!
I walked back toward the apartment, started climbing the stairs, and stopped.
You know those moments when you feel that you've missed something gigantic and looming, and you know that the piece of information you've forgotten is falling toward you at a great speed, and it's about to hit at any minute and make you feel like a half-witted moron?
And thus it came to pass that a guy could be seen, around 11:30 at night, standing in a dumpster and trying to force the dented-shut door of his CD player open, cursing at himself.
I eventually emerged victorious from the dumpster, Grand Wazoo disc in hand, freshly retrieved from the stereo from which I had forgotten to remove it.
Amazingly, the CD wasn't scratched, and it plays fine on my new, shiny, fantastic Onkyo stereo. I highly recommend this brand for terrific sound and dependability. I can only recommend the Phillips for extreme CD protection while being thrown.
