Howdy, folks.
I must say that I was pleasantly surprised to hear "Big Leg Emma" emanating from my television last Tuesday. It was implemented as background music for a documentation in the German news show "Frontal 21."
My questions to all hunchmen (and hunchwomen!) on the KUR staff: when and where was the last time you heard FZ's music used in the commercial sector? How can we go about convincing the media moguls to use more of his works which, naturally, would generate more royalties for the ZFT?
Once the ZFT has enough income, perhaps Gail would finally approve the release of more of the material we've been craving.....aw shit, maybe I'm too hopeful on that one.

Mack73 you are so right, that show has some solid humour. I was watching that cartoon and I heard a Zappa riff...sorry can't remember from what, but it definately caught my attention. Someone told me that one of Zappa's offspring is tied in to that show some how...a writer or something.

Howdy indeed LCS ( and when did you change to Elmer Fudd ? ). An interesting question you pose there - It reminded me that a few months back Gail was reported to be suing some Canadian company as they had dared to use a piece of FZ's music (WMIEH ?) in a TV commercial. Anyhow, the last time I heard a piece of Zappa music being used was back in the mid seventies when there was a Scottish current affairs programme on the box and they used (appropriately enough ) "Eat That Question" as the title music. Your optimism is admirable.

uuhhh, MTV might try showing music videos! I don't have any free time to speak of, but what few chances I've had to channel-surf over the last few years, I can't recall once when I've surfed past MTV & actually seen a MUSIC VIDEO playing.

Oh ya....margarita happy hour made me forget.... I'm assuming from the absence of replies to my post in another thread; that rare appearance #1 to me.... Mothers on Carson (69 or so) isn't readily available; or familiar to anybody. ?

optimism kills puppies. The optimist says the glass is half-full. The pessimist says the glass is half-empty. The engineer says the glass is twice as large as it needs to be. Howdy indeed LCS ( and when did you change to Elmer Fudd ? ).Just recently. I actually wanted Ronald Reagan, but I just don't know how the hell to import photos into this place. ...Mothers on Carson (69 or so) isn't readily available; or familiar to anybody. ? No, I totally missed that one. I wasn't quite born yet. Moreover, I haven't ever heard that the Mothers made an appearance on the "Tonight Show." I know about Steve Allen show (which was a precursor to the Tonight Show), but that was just FZ and a bicycle. Then there was this Austrailian show (excerpt from Video from Hell), but the Mothers with Johnny? Hmmmm... I checked the Tonight Show archives, containing a database with all guests. According to it, our Uncle Frankie appeared only twice: on the 29th of June 1988 (with Jay Leno) and on the third of April 1986 (with Johnny Carson). Dweezil appeared on the 17th of April 1990. No other show is mentioned, so I'm stumped. Here's something else for your reading pleasure: http://home.online.no/~corneliu/lateshow.htm

Couldn't find those archives myself, but do they go back that far? Would it be listed as The Mothers instead of FZ?

Well that sure is baffle-in'. I'm wonderin' if it may have been before 69, coz that's as far back as it goes..... but I don't think so. Hhmmm, if it was one of them ol' psychedelic hallucinations that were so much a part of my little hippy-fied life back then, I don't think my dad would've been in it turning the TV off.!?!

1989 the exxon valdez oil spill in alaska caused great environmental damage. however the best to come out of it was the jaques coustaue special covering this mess. frank zappa did the background music for this and although he is not seen his music can be heard. It is on laser disc called outrage at valdez, 48 minutes, in color. so, zappa had/has some commercial potential as the coustaue company chose zappa for the background music on this television special in 1989. no words just music although zappas musical interpretation of sea life such as the whales crying on this special ripped my soul apart
