Frank Zappa / Strictly Critique / Re:Zappa's Uncontinuities

Maybe these uncontinuities are continuities in disguise But really, these uncontinuities are details pertaining to FZ's private life. The music is what interests me first and foremost. Apart from that, if FZ had a beer or a margarita at this or that time: so what... He's always remained loyal to his own talent and views regardless of what others thought/wrote/said of it, and therein lies the crux of the biscuit if you ask me! |

BTW, Barry, did you ever get your credit card straightened out about the 17 orders?
Well, I didn't get an order confirmation, nor did I get the "delay"-email from zappa.com either by the way. However, my bank did call me at the time asking me if it was really my intention to buy 17 copies of FZ in Oz; which means the money was being transferred. So in turn, I told the bank, that I only wanted the amount of ONE CD+shipment being paid for, if it ever comes to that. So I'm just watching and I'm waiting... for all I know, I'm not even going to receive anything. |

I wish they would have solved their problem with Ryko and let them release it.
Yes, I agree totally. At least Ryko did more than a decent job in getting FZ stuff released (allbeit re-releases for the most part) - worldwide (as opposed to: US only, via mail (pre)order; yes, a european talking here). I never quite understood what caused the break-up between ZFT and Ryko in the first place. Oh well... |

... and then there was a deafening silence... I'm having mixed feelings about the whole thing as I'm sure most people do; I will need to let it sink in before I say anything about it. For now, let's just hope the album will at some time in the future be released. |

Frank Zappa / Strictly Critique / Re:NPR Poll 4: What got YOU into Zappa?

It's kind of weird to say this but what got me into Zappa, ironically, was his death. Before that, I'd heard the name, knew Valley Girl and Bobby Brown like everybody else; but never thought of diving deeper into his music. Oddly enough I still remember the news broadcast of that day in december annoucing his demise. They showed some live footage and images of him and called him an 'iconoclastic rock genius with a sardonical sense of humour'. Now that got my tender 21 year old brain thinking Not long after, the first album I bought was "Roxy & Elsewhere". And the rest, my friends, is history. I've been passionately in love with his music ever since. (Pass the Kleenex please) |

NPR: are you closing down previous polls as you launch new ones? I haven't really checked... anyway, I for one would like to keep all polls open for all eternity (or at least for the duration of this board being paid for ). There are bound to be more members to join in wanting to cast a vote, and I think they should have their chance to vote. What do you think? |

| I think Zappa was referring to hard drugs such as heroin or cocaine, or what have you. Hard drugs are the kind of stuff that will blow your life away the first time you try them. I don't think you can compare them to alcohol, nicotine or cafeine. Alcohol can be a hard drug in that over usage may become a destructive factor in life, but it is not necessarily one. Nicotine and cafeine are highly addictive, but they do not by default threaten your life as acutely as do heroine or cocaine... Moderation here is a key word, and moderation is an impossibility with the real hard drugs mentioned above... |

I expect they share in the blame for the hold-up in vault material and for that I curse them. SOFA
That's interesting SOFA. What role does Rykodisc play in the hold-up of vault material? |

I don't normally view their guestbook for that very reason. It's kinda sad, really; quite similar to what's become of AFFZ. SOFA
The difference between a newsgroup and a guestbook on a site is, that there are ways to prevent this kind of trolling/mass messaging in a guestbook (whereas in a newsgroup, chaos rules). Zappa.com's webmaster is partly responsible for the mess that is the Z-guestbook, because there are security flaws left inthere that could've been taken care of. It's okay for a small, personal site to use such a format, but a high-profile site like zappa.com should expect their guestbook to be visited, used and abused, at any time, all the time, for no reason whatsoever... Still, the motives of some of the idiots posting in the Z-guestbook, are indeed incomprehensible. I have my own theory about these people. I picture them, sitting in front of their computer at 3:30AM. They've probably been drinking heavily, they've been chatting on IRC with some SexyChick98245 while "Dinah-Moe Hum" was put on endless repeat thru their headphones. And then the idea hits them: I'm gonna post a message on the Zappa guestbook! No! Make that twenty! Burp |

| I have heard about it, and I also heard that, apparently, FZ is being portrayed as an egothistical maniac in it. Since I'm european (meaning, I won't get to see the movie), I would love to read some reviews on this movie... Was it good for you? |
