1  Frank Zappa / Zappa Wiki Jawaka / Re: Grey market on: March 24, 2008, 01:09:25 AM
The list is growing:
2  Frank Zappa / Zappa Wiki Jawaka / Grey market on: February 08, 2008, 01:42:02 PM
Lately a number of unsortable items were (or are being) released:
  • Zappa In Barcelona
  • Live Transmissions
  • Derailroaded - Inside The Mind Of Larry "Wild Man" Fischer
  • Music In Review
  • Transmissions
  • A Token Of His Extreme
Most of these items likely come from the grey market.
So I suspect we should handle them differently in order to avoid confusion with regular releases of better quality.
Should we create a dedicated category Grey market?
3  Frank Zappa / Zappa Wiki Jawaka / Australian editions on: February 06, 2008, 06:44:29 AM
Warning, it seems that the article that was the most used as a source for Australian releases (including the Zappa Patio for instance) is not accurate => http://www.science.uva.nl/~robbert/zappa/interviews/australia.html

However it seems that a guy managed to sort out things => http://www.zappainaustralia.com/

Not a big deal yet in the wiki as I always try to find several evidences including visual.
This lead me to think that I need to find a way to cite sources in the versions tab.
This could be a bit hard as a most of the information I got so far (ean codes & release dates for instance) come either from commercial (jbook.com) and auctions sites (eBay) that do not necessarily last or records I do own (matrix numbers) or see in shops (I take pictures from time to time)...
So for each single line in the tab, I may have more than 5 different sources which is not so easy to manage.

Cannot use an & in a page title

Visiting the page truncates the title and shows a blank page.
Brion replied:
This is a problem with your rewrite rules. Apache unescapes the string, including the ampersand, so when you place it into the query string it counts as two separate parameters.
To avoid this you can:
1) Use an Alias directive instead of mod_rewrite; this is the simplest in most cases.
2) Use the ampescape patch to Apache (in maintenance/) to add a rewrite modifier function which can properly re-escape the ampersand.

Any help to us?
Mmmh... looks 'easy' to implement (maybe some more details would be needed). What do you think about it Barry?

The redirection can be temporarily put in an already existing page such as Frank Zappa (for instance #REDIRECT[[Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention (The Album)]]).
So there is no blocking point to move *&* to *And*. It's just very time consuming  Wink

A big part has been completed (Category:Samplers & Promos and America Drinks & Goes Home have been like hell, the Tributes should be the same).

Category:Tributes & Cover Bands

Mmmh. Seems we'll also have to deal with the categories... such as Category:Samplers & Promos.

Ok, I guess the redirection should be considered as a temporary workaround because it prevents from using the 'What links here' functionality.

Plus I found a few exceptions that cannot be solved with a simple redirection.

London Symphony Orchestra Vol. I
will obviously not redirect to
London Symphony Orchestra Vol. I & II

Frank Zappa will not redirect to
Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention (The Album)
or
Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention (The Album - 2)

Anyway I will apply the workaround everywhere it is possible.
In a second time, I will move the pages and then replace "&" by "And" anywhere I can.

Thank you very much Barry.
This new sausage in the logo is cool.
Sure I started to hunt the errors, the only one I found so far is on my own page which uses borderline syntax.
11  Frank Zappa / Zappa Wiki Jawaka / Re: Anatomy of a DISCOGRAPHY on: October 01, 2007, 03:42:45 PM
I've not been visiting the Zappa Wiki Jawaka pages for months (years), and now have been looking for thing - but couldn't always find...

The way I see it it works as it worked before - and with which I really cannot do a thing. Full of "skeleton pages" with NO INFOS in them. The MAIN thing in the wiki-world is that if a link is red, there is no info behind it, if its blue, ther IS something there. I was glad to find things on the theme of the OSFA star map - and been very sad to find that there are NO INFOS for qiute a lot of things.

It is sad because this way I will continue not-using the wiki (as I did not use it for months), and I will HAVE TO continue not contributing it - simply because I do not understand the structure.

So: I think skeleton pages should be removed, filled with information, or whatever - this way it is just no good.

I've been talking about it before, but nothing changed. Okay, things don't have to go "my way", but this way I cannot contribute, I cannot use it.
(But anyway, the correct usage f the wiki-structure is not "my way", I think. Its the "normal way".)

its a pity.
Hi Bálint,
Many potential contributors might share the same opinion as yours and then get discouraged.
Let's hope we can find a solution very soon in order to help you (and other people) to edit.
And most of all, I would be very happy to see you back here.
C U soon

Oh yes it does.
Btw sorry to give you extra work Wink
13  Frank Zappa / Zappa Wiki Jawaka / Re: Recent wiki vandalism on: October 01, 2007, 09:08:59 AM
But why?  What is the point of it?  They are obviously unaware of the low volume of contributions so they will be spotted and reverted straight away.

1.4.2!!!  Wikipedia (now at 1.11.0) uses a CAPTCHA for registration and before you can save an article with a web link within the text.

One day all upgrades will come with a Revert button  Wink

I just managed to successfully install 1.11.0 on a test domain and upgrade (a copy of) the old database in the process... huzzah! I'll be attempting the same on the live wiki. Stay tuned... Smiley
This is great news  Cheesy
Thanks Barry  Smiley

Hello guys,

I think the recent issues are due to a vandalbot.
Seems there is no real permanent way to cure this, except maybe to add a kind of Turing test in the subscription form.

These two softwares may help to get rid of bots from subscribing:The contribution concept of reCAPTCHA seems to be particularly interesting.

What's your opinion Barry?
I might implement a prototype on a wiki sandbox (if I find time to do so).
