| F&O suck, but they do maintain a significant place in the FZ lore, so they get that much respect. They aren't exactly Zappaphiles tho; Flo hisownself said in the FZ forum that he is totally unfamiliar with the FZ work that came after F&E left the band. Harrumpf! |

Whaddayathink, should I open up a board for zappa.com forum members so that they can chat amongst themselves here when the official forums go down?
Hi, zappa.com forum denizens by the way -- you are most welcome here - if a tad bit overwhelming, but hey... I'm sure things will go back to normal quite soon and no, I won't be asking Lynne for a dance.
Hi Barry! I, for one, do not wish a separate place to chat with my official site pals. Chatting with new (to me) chatters is chatfully delightful. Let us just sort of blend in..... |

Probably depended on the song. I remember FZ talking about just telling the band what to play, and shaping the song directly, with no paper involved. This must have been the easy rock type stuff.
I don't know if this is representative or not, but once I was lucky enough to be back stage at one of his concerts. I observed that Frank had two notebooks with him (the big 4" ringbinder type). He sat and wrote lyrics in the one with just blank paper in it. He also sat writing notes on music paper, in the other notebook. So, what does this tell us? I certainly don't know, but perhaps this is what he did on the road. Maybe at home, he sat at the piano and checked his work as he went along, so to speak.
Or, maybe he couldn't do anything unless he channeled Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, and Mantovani...... |
