Rant 2 is about completism.
Thanks to this site and the Friday Boots, Vines from you wonderful Uncle Beaters and from that other place, Links from this site, etc my collection has grown to be well represented from most eras of Zappa concerts and one has too ask when is enough to be enough. I don't really think I am a completist but whenever I see a concert available by the original Mothers I begin drooling and can't wait to hear it. Still have not heard them play Holiday in Berlin in concert so no doubt will continue to search. Not sure what I am trying to say here but the last Friday Boot illustrates the point. Already there are available heaps of concerts available from the '79 Band but the second last item here was Inca Roads. I mean how many wonderful solos are there from this song by this band and the 74 group? Will I be able to resist the chance to hear another one? I think not. Anyway my collection will not be complete until I hear:
Mothers 68-69 play Holiday in Berlin 8-Feb 1970, The Sports Arena, San Diego 9-May 1970 or 11-May 1970, Fillmore East, NYC 24-Jun 2000, Koninklijk Theater Carré, Amsterdam, Holland "200 Motels, The Suites
If you can help I will be here. |

The White Zone / Uncle Beat / Stick Together
|
on: December 16, 2007, 09:16:23 PM
|
Please hear my plea to members of this great community of music lovers. You know we got to Stick Together. Please let's not shoot ourselves in the foot by boycotting ZFT and ZPZ.
I have just mailed 2 items to Barry and have made them into 2 different Vines as I fell they may not both appeal to the same collectors of Zappa concerts. And I get to continue this rant over 2 pages.
This one is more or less a collection of orchestral stuff which is the sort of material that attracted me to these pages originally.
So let me present Stick Together which contains:
1963 05 19 Mount St_Mary's 1967 Lumpy Gravy acetates 1975 09 17 Royce Hall, Los Angeles Aspen Wind Quintet 1985-2 separate performances of Times Beach Chicago Civic Orchestra plays Dupree's Paradise 1990 1990 - The Valdez Score Absolute Ensemble - 2004 09 18 Koeln Germany Harmonia Ensemble - 2007 08 05 Zappanale + 1972 11 10 (E) Philadelphia 1980 UMRK outtakes and rehearsals
It is all in FLAC format. You know where I got it. Please do not distribute these in MP3 or other compressed format. format. wazoologist(AUS)>>>Barry
Rant 1 follows:
This has been a big year for my Zappa collection. Until Buffalo was released I had not caught up with the ZFT releases unobtainable in the shops. So early in the year The bullet was bit, the 12 items were ordered from Musictoday, and arrived here 2 weeks later. I Love Them All.
At my place I have no internet access during the week but at weekends I have access to the connections of my grown up kids. KURadio has always been my home page. There is usually not enough time available after getting the Friday Boot and checking the links from KUR, visiting the NASA sites etc.,to get onto the fabulous file sharing site but I did notice they had a large collection of vines put up by members of the music loving community. My name was placed on 9 of these vines and shortly afterwards parcels of DVDs began arriving. I Love Them All.
Later in the year more time became available and I was able to download some torrents for myself but have been forced to leech rather than share files from computers that do not belong to me. Hence my desire to share these with Uncle Beaters. Of course during this time vines have been arriving still from these pages and the Friday Boots have been available weekly so the collection has continued to grow.
The next thing to happen was that for my birthday one of my boys bought tickets to ZPZ here in Adelaide 2 weeks ago. Meanwhile ZFT brought out the Dub Room and Wazoo. The news of the latter was particularly exciting as I am a big fan of this ensemble. On the morning of the concert I made a visit to my local music store and in a rack of specials the cover of The Dub Room Special DVD stared back at me. It had no price on it and when I enquired was able to acquire it for 10 Oz dollars!!. A quick look in the Zappa rack where there are usually stacks of Ryko disks and I could see ID and the 2 disk MOFO. Somehow I can't bring myself to pay $49 for the 7 tracks that didn't make it to the Big MOFO.
The concert was Fucking Great. As far as I am concerned Dweezil and the band did a great job in interpreting the music. Particularly impressive was Zoot Allures, Ray White's vocal improv from audience phrases during Dupree's Paradise and the arrival on stage of Steve Vai. I went prepared to be disappointed by Joe after hearing the Rockline concert but his drumming was one of the highlights. Also the Dub Room special and were available at a good price. $20 and $30. Wazoo too is Fucking Great.
It is heard to understand why ZFT have brought out their CAD on this site but we know their "business plan" is Fucking weird.
Please do yourselves a favour. Don't miss ZPZ concerts if you can get to them. Buy everything ZFT puts out. You'll love it. It's a way of life. You know as well as I do what they have in the vault. Keep encouraging them so we can hear more of it. |
