16  Frank Zappa / Strictly Critique / What's your favorite Halloween Zappa music? on: October 31, 2004, 10:07:05 AM
My own favorite Halloween special tape I used to make to scare the hell out of the little trick or treaters near our place after sun set consisted mostly of:

H.R. 2911 (those snorks!!!)
Mo 'n Herb's Vacation part II
Dwarf Nebula

Here is to your dear Halloween ol' Frank!!

Shocked

Whew, your reactions are a bit of a relief concerning my theoretical mental health!...
Yes, it is esp. sad given how thorough Zappa was on a good day with technical details about his stuff...
You are right that the old version of the site was actually worst! I don't mind too much the "overflashing"... if only there was information in there once you regain your sight!!

Can anyone enlighten me as to what's with the official (ZFT) Zappa page at all?
I simply don't get it!
You click on "Calendar"... then you "learn" that Hot Rats was released in 1969...
You click on "Joe's Domage" (sic) because you want to know what this is (before you find KUR of course!), then... you don't even know what format the thing is!...
Visiting this site makes me feel like either >I< am crazy, or poor Zappa's memory and "trust" is in bad shape at the moment...
19  Frank Zappa / Strictly Critique / Re:The Zappa Composing Method on: October 26, 2004, 12:10:22 PM
Hello all, glad I have found this (running!) page and interesting chat!
I had read a Zappa interview in '79 or so, in Musician mag perhaps, where he said he wrote music mostly while waiting in airports, during flights, in hotel rooms, etc. Then, back home, he would check some of the material on the piano.
He also said in this paper that, when home, he sat at the piano all day to compose.
I would guess he probably meant the orchestra projects here, as opposed to many other methods he probably used back in those days, depending on how schooled his musicians of the moment were.
A piece like "Ruth is Sleeping", which he said he wrote between flights while waiting in an airport, sounds to my idiot ear like "randomly" written, and not very much planned. What think?
