Frank Zappa / Strictly Critique / Re:Favourite Zappa

Well, for prosperity's sake, the first one I picked up was Cheap Thrills, and it still does thrill me in a special place.
Favorite album has gotta be We're Only In It For The Money.
When it comes to songs, two of my all time favorites are: King Kong off of Disconnected Synapses, from 1970 in Paris with Jean Luc - I absolutley LOVE that jam - also, the Bwana Dik suite of songs from the Fillmore (second fav. album, followed by Hot Rats, Thing Fish, and Joe's Garage) - and I really dig Flo & Eddie.
If I had to pick one song, though, hmmmmm. . .I guess it would be. . .huy. . .typing and thinking at the same time. . .hard choice. . .hold on.
Two minutes later. . .torn between Muffin Man, Catholic Girls, Baby Take Your Teeth Out, Camarillo Brillo, Willie The Pimp, and Oh No. I cannot decide further than that.
What about your favorite collaborating musicians? Mine is without a doubt Ike. |

Volume 6 was the first one I got, and it was some of the first live Zappa I heard (after Roxy). I to this day think that Muffin Man has the best solo on that number I've heard.
And yes, Plooker, 4 is fantastic. I love the Brown Moses, and the first time I experienced the Evil Prince I was taken somehwere amazing.
Helloooo, everyone, BTW. |

Hmm. . .well, I have my import preferences set to high quality mp3's, but once the flacs were turned into aiff's they stayed the way upon importing.
I'll try to put it all on a DVD-R though - if that works this puppy will be ready shortly.
I'll be in touch. |

The White Zone / Uncle Beat / Want To Start A Vine, But. . .

So I just recently acquired the three run set of 02/26-28/88 shows from the Royal Oak Theater in Detroit, and I'd love to package em and vine em, but they were FLAC files, so they're freakin' huge! I have a decompressor that'll put then into WAV's or AIFF's (I'm on a Mac) - still won't all fit onto a disc, so the package would be multiple data discs with the flacs on them, like three per show or something.
I'm down to start it up if people really want them, but I'm more open to suggestions on how to compress them into mp3's - any ideas out there? And remember, any program you recomend needs to work for Mac OS X.
The shows are audience recordings, but they're pretty damn clear, and complete.
I also have this set of tracks called "They Saved Zappa's Mustache," made sometime in the 90's by a group called Negativeland. They're each about an hour long, and are have a Lumpy Gravy type feel to them - spliced together interviews and music - definatley worth the listen. Those are mp3's and could be compressed for something like yousendit.com if you guys want. The 88 shows would take days to upload to those sites, and each are larger than a gig.
Sorry to make things so difficult for you all, but I'm pretty much a technical dullard sometimes. |

The White Zone / Uncle Beat / Re:Bobo's assortment

OK. . .I've been dreading having to this, but poor skoljic has been waiting on me, and I can't find the bloody Bobo's Asst. disc!!!
The worst part is, I didn't even get to transfer the files to my computer, either, so I don't have this at all right now - I've been searching all over, but I can't find where I put it!
I'm sure at some point it will turn up, but for now, any chance of someone nipping out a copy to skoljic?
Since I lost mine, no worries about sending me another - I'll take it as punishment for misplacing gold. . .and like I said, I'm sure it will show up eventually. . .
But I don't want to leave a guy hanging, so if anyone can help me out with this one, it'd be greatly appreciated. |
