Need A Bath?

Our pal Magic Fingers writes in to say:

You might like to tell the boys and girls at KUL about this page of my second favourite website.

FZ at Bath, 1970

… and then tell them to check out the rest of the site.

Consider it done, good Sir! Aside: when do you reckon The Big Note will be back on the airwaves in full force?

Mystery Zappa Album Poster

9illustrations wants to know:

The original uploader Farbror Sid is not sure what Zappa album this poster, by Dave McMacken, came with. Anybody? I’ve been looking around on the web for a while and I can’t find this poster or any references to it. Maybe it’s very rare in real life too. I seems it’s a Mothers (of Invention?) jubilee and I’m counting six candles.

Here’s the poster in question (click to enlarge see the full poster):

Heh, well I was about to ask you guys, but one visit to the wiki identified the above as… a 1974 Christmas card. All hail The Mighty Wiki! The folding creases in the image however do suggest that this illustration was also printed in a poster format… and possibly shipped with an album?

Fialka Interviews Bickford

Philip Marion writes:

A wonderful cultural archivist, metaphysical snake-oil salesman, antiquarian ne’er-do-well, and star of the end of the VHS version of “Baby Snakes” Gerry Fialka interviewed Bruce Bickford recently after the showing of FZ’s Bickford film at the silent movie theatre in LA.

Part one:

Parts two, three, four, five. Thanks, Phil!

Cpt. Beefheart vs. The Grunt People: The Poster

I’ve recently had some inquiries as to whether the fictional poster Sharl and I created a while back, is actually available as a real poster…

Cpt Beefheart vs The Grunt People Poster

Well now it is, from my CafePress account. Printed on heavyweight 7 mil semi-gloss paper using superior dye inks. Image size 16” x 20”. Have a look, why don’t you. 🙂

Last.fm Wallpaper

What a cool little toy, this: feed it with your Last.fm username, and it will generate a wallpaper image based on what you’ve been listening to recently.

Here’s mine:

I was expecting Sharl’s to be an exclusive Eels affair, but strangely, it turned out otherwise! * ducks *

A Location For Zappa’s Baltimore Bust

Eric Leicus, Lithuanian, Baltimore resident & Zappa fan writes:

A friend who works in the Baltimore Office of Promotion & the Arts tells me that various well-trafficked locations have been denied for placement of the statue because Frank Zappa was not an appropriate image to have on their grounds. Therefore, its very possible that the Zappa statue could be put on the outskirts on the city … meaning- it’ll be put in a place where no one will see it. I’m thinking it should be in Fells Point Square/Mt Vernon Park or at least somewhere downtown where people can actually see it and appreciate it.

If you agree, Eric suggests you send email to Kim Domanski (public art coordinator for BOP&A) and let her know that you’d like the Zappa statue to be in a highly trafficked/visible area.

Even if just a few of you do it, it would be much appreciated and could make a big difference. And really it is at least a little way to give back to the man (or at least his legacy) who gave us so much amazing music.

Newman.

Way back in November 2006, we launched The KUR World Tour Book:

Remember those scrapbooks that were passed around when you were a kid? A friend would ask you to write or draw something in his/hers and then you’d give it back. Some of the pages would turn out rather cheesy, while others would consist of really cool doodles or collages.

With positive response from you guys, Sharleena and myself went and bought a (matter-of-fact) rather cheap sketchbook, filled its first pages with some introductory doo-dah, and off it went.

From there on, what can I say, really? Things went good, until they went bad.

The book is lost.

No doubt there’s a Newman in US Postal Services sitting on this book, creaming all over it at the prospect of a quick buck on eBay. Nnnnewman…
Luckily, the last recipient of the book –our good friend SOFA– made pictures of all pages before sending it on. Have a look (flickr link) — be sure to click the “All Sizes button”!

To all of you who received the book, doodled in it, then sent it on, and made it as spectacularly good as it is: you guys rock. Some samples:

Newman? We need to get in touch. I’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse.
