Zappanale Fever
Herr Thomas, head cheese over at Zappanale, just announced this year’s headliner (drum roll):

Yes, that would be Eddie Jobson!

The link says: “Eddie caught Frank’s attention when his band Roxy Music opened for Zappa at the Mecca Auditorium, Milwaukee in November 1975.” – I was tempted to say that Zappa stole Jobson from Eno, and Eno stole Belew from Zappa (for Bowie) to get even, but apparently Eno had left Roxy by 1975. Still, there are striking co-incidences in the rivalry for the favours of young, talented musicians in those two stories
Eddie’s contributions are sadly underrepresented in official releases, although Philly ’76 does him some justice, in addition to Zappa in New York. It’ll be interesting to see what he has to offer for the Zappanale!

Good news for the Zappanale attendees! I hope to go, one day.
Really cool pic above Barry. I’ve never seen this photo. Are there more somewhere from this shoot? It looks like a scene from The Crucifixion. Eddie and Terry seem to be pondering who’s Judas.
DC, I’m sure a lot of band leaders would line up waiting for Frank to discard his talent for newbies. Being at the top of the class, didn’t guarantee job security with FZ.

We all know that Frank was good at finding new talent, but there’s a difference between picking up a guy from a bar in Hawaii and finding a useful player in Roxy Music…

A quote from Hugh:
This pic was in an issue of the British magazine Classic Prog a few issues back (with Genesis on the cover). There was an article on Jobson’s career, including Roxy Music and Tull.
